Have you guys ever seen the Carton of Milk video where Augie talks about their milk stout? Obviously not imperial but seems to agree with what you're saying. i noticed it when I had a bunch of Kane's Port Omna variations next to each other. The small glasses warmed faster and I liked them all better about 20 minutes in.

I like to drink my impy stouts exactly at room temperature

I prefer every beer colder, right out of the fridge. Best example is Wake n Bake, you're gonna get the most extreme coffee flavor when it's fridge temp, though I do occasionally let it warm a bit to get more complexity. Siberian Night is another perfect example, when cold that beer has killer coffee flavor, as it warms it becomes more complex. Freeze some Hop 15 then drink as it starts to defrost, you will get the most extreme bitter I've had.

It actually depends on the stout or porter. I've found that while I prefer most of them right at (or slightly above) cellar temperature, some of them taste a little a little flatter or over-roasty as they get to room temperature. Founders Porter is an example (of a related style) that I prefer a little cooler (but not as cold as refrigerator temperature).

I like almost all DIPAs just a bit warmer than refrigerator temperature; many of them (but not all) start to get too syrupy if they warm up too much.

To me, if you drink a good stout right out of the fridge, you're cheating yourself. You're not getting the full experience. Maybe you really don't like imperial stouts.

Drink it cold if it is your preference is to drink it that way. Don't let anyone tell you how to enjoy your beer. I personally will take an hour or so to sip on a really good Imperial Stout. I enjoy letting it warm and picking up the wide variety of flavours and depth a really good stout can produce. But if you like em' cold go for it. It's your beer, drink it how you like it!

Some beers drinks easier at the cooler temperatures, but I lose a of flavor complexity. My preference is start out around 55 degrees & come up to room temps over time.

Like most, I like my Impy stouts to warm up a bit - but I don't really care to let it get too warm - room temp is a bit warmer than what I prefer.

Dem opinions spoken as facts tho.

Plot twist:You don't really like imperial stouts.

As far as losing flavor complexity when a beer is too cold, sure, maybe if it's basically ice cold, but any changes in desirable flavor that I've gotten in a beer as it's warmed up have been subtle.

I generally don't even try to drink these beers cold. A bit cooler than room temperature, but certainly not cold. The only time I've had an imperial stout that I chilled more than I'd intended I found it rather bland and disappointing.
