I'll buy mediocre beer when I am making beer butt chicken or when I am smoking ribs.

NO! I get wanting to support the local guys. But if they can't make a quality product, then they don't deserve my business. Same goes with anything in life really.

I don't! Just because it's local doesn't mean it's good or better. And so many people fail to understand that. For example, your locally grown produce has the same amount of pesticides and glyphosate as something that's being shipped from elsewhere. It's also harvested before it's ripe.

Way too many sh!tty and mediocre local (and not) breweries. Improve your quality or go away!

I'll have some local mediocre beers for friends, etc. There's a local IPA that I keep in the fridge and offer to those I know aren't into the real good stuff. I like supporting this brewery and they don't can the best stuff...mostly draft on that.

Its not like I go out searching for mediocre beer, but I do like to take chances and expand my horizons. Try not to let reviews sway my judgment, especially if its something hardly anyone has talked about. I like to think its 50/50

    Define mediocre.

Just because a brewery doesn't have lines out the doesn't mean their beer isn't worthy.

I'll buy mediocre beer for OTHER people to drink, not me! Kinda a dumb question tbh.

Of course I'll give the local a chance but will not support them if their stuff isn't up to par.

I buy the best beer available to me at the time, local or otherwise.

I used to favor mediocre local/craft when the selection was super limited. For instance at a concert where the options are BMC, Goose IPA, Four Peaks, and maybe one independent craft handle, I might have picked up the independent for a couple of dollars more, even if it was some mediocre cream ale or something. Since then, I've decided I'd rather drink a high-quality AAL and save some money than force myself to finish a war pint of expensive craft swill as a statement. Of course, even that was more about "independent craft" than "local."

If there's a good local and equally good non-local, I'd probably drink whichever one I generally have access to less often. That rule usually steers me clear of macro-brands, since they're so ubiquitous.

I will buy local if the larger distributed stuff isn't fresh. Now, that being said, there are some local seasonal beers that I will buy without hesitation, but that's due to quality and availability.

So many of my local breweries contract brew (out of state) their canned goods. I really don't drink local in a conscious way. And I will drink those local breweries who contract brew out of state (AlpenFlo being my number one). New York means little to me when it comes to beer.

I'm finding more and more that store shelves are being filled with local area beers (especially local NEIPA attempts). It's been great way to buy mixed six singles to try locals without having to drive all around the state to sample on site. Less costly and more time efficient for me.

Pretty sure what I buy is considered mediocre in todays beer world.

I would say I call it average beer that was considered pretty good back in the day.

    Been drinking
    Yards IPA
    Goose IPA
    Goose Pilsner
    Warsteiner Pils

    All fit my budget.

I also buy Hamms and High Life and consider them above average for the style.

    Enjoy

When one factors in a high quality yet boring style (American Blonde, experienced just the other day), the change of pace/cheap review from a trusted local brewery is just the spice.

A big no for me. I am always open to trying new beer from anyone, but if its poor then I won't buy it again.

I drink what pleases me, and buying $10-11 sixer of middling beers on purpose it insane. If I knowingly decide to buy a beer like this it's most certinly a cheap ass AAL. I don't buy local just to buy local, and Asheville isn't local, it's a 3 1/2 hour drive away, Richmond is much closer.

Thats how I am. Recently I've actually been more inclined to try non local beers because I noticed a lot of the beer imported from other states is of better quality, which makes sense because it had to have something going for it in order to get imported.

No. Too many local brews are good one year and shit the next. Been down that road too many times.

Sample taste yes, sample flight maybe. But buy, never.
