Eagle Provisions in the NY Times

The news came as a bit of a shock to me when I first heard it, but I guess I shouldn't have been too surprised. This forum might be a more interesting place if it had a little bit of Ye Olde Curiosity Shop interest to balance out the "When is a beer not fresh?" threads. There are certainly some who'll mutter "good riddance." I remember when a Polish girl I was dating took me there. This was back when I didn't spend much money on beer, so I didn't leave with anything, but everything about the place stuck in my mind. Let's not forget what the place represents beyond the beer. It's an "ethnic grocery store" first and foremost and it mattered to people. I had some great and not-so-great beer from the place.

Tagging @jesskidden because he might be interested in the "Peter Doelger’s Extra Beer" stained glass reference in the article. Any off-the-cuff info on that one jesskidden?

 

i learned a lot about beer from eagle over the years, especially before there were 12 other stores to go to in brooklyn, but that memory will always be mixed with the fact that for every great find i had there was something that i regretted spending $5 more than necessary on due to their crazy price increases. Though I do hope someone got lucky in their final week and scored a discount on the Cantillions behind the counter...
