Hi everyone! I'm new to the forum... looking for some information regarding a purchase I made a few years ago. This is not a SALE post or any type of seeking value etc. I'm genuinely interested in what you Breweriana collectors THINK of this item. I collect/buy&sell antique postcards, among many other items, and this one really caught my eye. I love the message written on the card and the subject matter of the image and message together just made me NEED this card. During the purchase I wondered why the price was reaching much higher than most postcards I buy so I asked the seller. The interest and competition on this card was unbelievable in my experience! They told me it was because of the Lemp's bottled Beer Ad hanging on the wall in the background of the image! It was listed in the "breweriana" category as well. Ive never come across anything like this in my many years of collecting. I just wonder how desirable something like this would really be in the Breweriana collector's realm? Is this really something special because of the beer ad in the background? Is it important that it is dated (12/7/1905)? Does the subject matter of the message, the card being from an old saloon AND the beer ad together make this special to you folks? What do you think of the card as a whole? This is almost the most expensive postcard in my collection, I'm just wondering what exactly I have... and if the beer ad really makes it more special than other cards. Would the beer ad hanging on the wall in the background even be of interest to YOU as a collector? It just seems a bit odd as the ad is very secondary to the rest of the whole item honestly. I'm originally from St. Louis MO so I know all about the Lemp Brewery etc and I love the dark history of the family as well. Ive visited the Lemp family's mansion several times, so the card is special to me on many levels. I'm just mindblown that the ad on the wall could make this such a sought after postcard . Its really cool if thats the case, I've just never seen a poster on a wall in an image make a postcard auction a true competition. What do YOU think?[IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

It's always interesting and enjoyable to view historical scenes like this one, but I'm not so much into it so that I'm not a collector of historical paraphernalia. Thanks for posting it.

Welcome to the BA site! Enjoy your time here.

I would think that this would be more interesting/valuable due to the gambling subject matter rather than a partially obscured beer sign in the background?

Same here honestly. Maybe specifically Lemp collectors were into this for some reason? I love it for the gambling aspect along with the image, its a great card for sure. But the interest on this thing was literally unbelievable. And the fact it was sold as "breweriana" just confuses me... but it definitely worked for the seller I'd say. I usually don't even have competition on the cards I buy, this card was a different story
