WOW! Where did these guys come from? I have never been more impressed with a beer than when I had my first glass of MC^2. It was definitely in the same vein as a lot of the Treehouse IPAs.

Anyone have any info on where these guys have come from and how they've engineered their techniques? I'm absolutely blown away and really excited to have these guys in southern NY.

Keep an eye out...I definitely see them blowing up like Treehouse and Trillium in the NE hop scene really soon.

something tells me that these guys are not your typical homebrewers turned pro.

I haven't tried any of their beers yet but thanks for putting them on my radar. I am going to make an effort to sample their stuff soon.
In my demented world I give them a plus for this-no merch on their website. I hate it when a brewery is selling tshirts, hats and glassware before they have released their first beer.

Yeah read about these guys the other day when I saw one of their beers had been tapped nearby. Yet to try but definitely excited

I couldn't agree more, I had Mc2 at Augurs Well last weekend. I had never heard of these guys and was just in the mood to try a new beer/brewery, I was blown away! Can't wait to see what else these guys put out.

I was waiting for this thread to get started. MC2 is incredible. Far and away the closest New York has come to a Treehouse-esque beer. The mouthfeel is on point. Looking forward to tracking this brewery's development.

I had it on tap at Augur's Well as @dleiner did and it was damn amazing. The mouthfeel was incredible, and the tropical fruitiness was intensely delicious. It reminded me of a better version of Mylar Bags, with less dank and more fruitiness. It didn't surprise me when the bartender told me it was a bunch of MIT chemists making beer.

Very excited to start chasin......finding their beers around the city more often.

Well, with posting up things like this....

I haven't tried their stuff yet, but it will be interesting to see. Hopefully they will remain like a few other breweries in our area, great beer, accessible and no lines.

Now off to hunt some down.....

I was fortunate enough to find fractal mosaic at Milk and Hops Astor 2 weeks or so ago and it was awesome. I'm looking forward to more from these brewers for sure.

Drove out to Halftime in Westchester today to try and grab a growler of MC2 and it was kicked. There were two other people in front of me also looking for the same thing.

The reviews of Untappd are mostly 4.75-5.

I think it's safe to say the hype train is going to be really strong with these guys. Probably worse than Other Half and Grimm.

I had MC2 last weekend, and it really is that good. Similar to haze. It's very exciting how new they are. Hopefully they can keep up with the demand they're soon to see.

Having MC2 as I type this and I agree with the hype. It is good and reminiscent of treehouse from a flavor profile. I will say it is a bit more dry and not as juicy as TH typically is.

Happy to see them on tap!

I've had several of their beers including Photon, Mmm...osa, and MC^2. Each beer was great with MC^2 being the leader with its soft mouthfeel, bubblegum yeasty body and tropical fruit profile. Photon, was probably the best pale I've had in some time, again for how much flavor is packed into a 4.5% beer.

Mmm...osa was still a good pale but I feel the oranges gave it an astrigency that didn't quite pair with the body of the beer. Also being that it was the same recipe as Photon, I felt it was hard to beat the bar that was placed on it. That could just be my palette being many others were rating it and enjoying more than my experience.

These guys are both scientists whom I hear work exclusively with playing with the mineralty of water. They clearly are at a very high level of brewing from the get go and I'm super excited they're outside of the BK/Queens/LI area. Their beers speak for themselves and if you see it around grab it. If you can get growlers do it yesterday.

The treehouse comparisons are a bit of a stretch here fellas, but I have had the Photon, MMMosa, Fractal and MC2, all over locally and they are quite tasty however I have noticed alot of consistency issues over the last few pours at different places, the beers are all loaded with flavor and do have a lovely haze to them, with big citrus notes , and I'm super stoked that even though the brewery isn't open places are filling growlers of them all over the upstate. But yes noticed different kegs tasting completely different at different bars all over. Not a negative post as I have nothing but positive things to say about these guys so far, just something my and my friends have taken note of recently , Love what they're doing , definitely keeping tabs on all their new stuff coming out , it's right up my alley.

Kegs of this stuff at bars and shops up in the Albany area are getting tapped in like an hour. I've only had MMM...Osa and Photon and they were both absolutely stellar. Word is they're gonna be canning when they open up their taproom.

Struck out here and at M&H Chelsea. Anyone aware of it on tap someplace else in the city?

Yeah, for the whole month or two since their first batch has been out. The nerve of some people!

Let's advocate, but not over hype to the point of hour(s) long lines and lawn chairs out of the gate. I mean their tap room isn't even open yet.

I'm local and haven't had the chance to try them myself.

Was sitting at City Hops with a MC2 and pretty much everyone that came in over the course of an hour was looking for MC2. I'm sure some of it is word of mouth, but I bet this thread has played a large part in MC2 tapping out all over the city

While I was at City Hops three growler fills of MC2 were made. Surprisingly, a couple dudes came in and asked about Grimm (sold out) and left. I wasn't sure whether to be grateful or sad about that.

I doubt it's this thread, seeing as though we're still on page 1: word of mouth, knowledgeable representivatives, juicy FB/IG pics get the job done...

"Our hoppy beers are pretty hazy!"

...However, the information presented gives one the impression that they don't just strive for the Haze/Juicy component; they maintain/input quality

Speaking in general. People should stop saying brewery X is just like some other well established and sought after thing. Why do it to yourself? Why make it more difficult to get beer you like? Unless you are a friend of the brewery and doing it somewhat sketchily, I'll never understand it.

Comparisons are a sloppy and lazy way to describe beers/breweries.

That said, I doubt any brewery is opened by people who just want to do OK and serve a small local crowd. Maybe that is a false dichotomy, but when people say they don't want a beer or brewery "hyped" it sure sounds like they want to keep it a secret and avoid problems some of the really popular breweries have faced with releases.

Capable business people will grow their capacity, use this expanded capacity to make more variety and volume of awesome beer for you to consume, all as long as you're willing to deal with the growing pains and be a promoter of them if you like them. In craft beer, our word on here goes a long way in tipping a curious customer into a dedicated drinker.

I found out about Equilibrium because bars starting posting them to Beer Menus and I was curious about them, but the comments here definitely lit a fire under my ass to get out there and try their beers, and I'm definitely telling all my fellow craft beer friends to get on board with these guys.

Cheers to you all, and the brewers at Equilibrium, and an amazing 2017!

lol. Really? Amazing argument you got here. If you can't figure out the difference between a brewery having an Instagram account and a bunch of people saying it's the next Treehouse you may need to stop drinking.

This is totally anecdotal, but I find, using OH for example, that I have a lot of non-nerd craft drinking friends in NYC who are not members of BA, and have probably never heard of Monkish or Treehouse or TG etc, who do follow OH on Instagram - likely under the "cool local consumable shit" reasoning. But people like them are not bridging the info to communities like this one.

I think talking about it on here probably has minimal long term effect. But I think it accelerates things. I know, for instance, that I've heard about lots of hyped up breweries in other parts of the country on here, that I wouldn't have known about otherwise (why I knew about and visited SARA a couple years ago when I was in the area).

So it is probably threads like these that spur some guy in cali to text his NY trade partner and be like "yo heard of these guys?" - and the ball starts rolling.

But you're right. Long term it's a drop in the ocean.
