I just bought a 2litre one of these and on unwrapping it I noticed a bobble of glass on the inside of the neck-like the glass hasn't been finished off properly, and tiny shards of glass-enough to give my self a pinprick. I also notice what looks like a very fine hairline fracture or scratch on the neck. Is this usual? I've never bought/used one of these before and don't want to have to send it back if that is typical. Actually I just noticed the brand isn't erlenmeyer-it's nahita. Is this a crappy cheapo version of the real thing?

Don't use it. I got some off brand flask and it broke into two pieces the first time I tried to heat it. It may break along the fracture.

I'll only trust Pyrex and Kimax brands from now on.

Wow-that was fast!. Yeah, I'm pretty pissed off-they also sent me a yeast pack with no ice pack. As I missed the delivery on Friday that means it has been sitting in the post office at room temp for 4 days and is now fully inflated. Anyone in the UK want to recommend a professional suppliers? Not impressed with this one at all

Erlenymer is a type of flask not a brand.

Pyrex, VWR, Corning, Kimax and Nalgene are all reputable brands (This is coming from someone who uses an ass load of these for actual lab experiments).

Ok, I didn't know that-I'm guessing you would also not use this? I noticed that they are now out of stock online at the store I use too-they are not too easy to get hold of in UK I think. Grrr

If its cracked or damaged in any way, toss it or send it back to them for a refund or store credit. Flasks can be purchased from Amazon or some of the aforementioned scientific retailers, as they'll be cheaper than from a brewing store.

Another vote for no--as the same for any broken glass in the brew process. I don't know what passing a kidney stone is like, but I'd think passing broken glass through your digestive tract would be equaly painful .
