Ever been duped by a so called "beer bar"?

Agree with the earlier posters. First, it's a dumb name. Second, no you have some idea of how the Bud Light drinker feels at Russian River. "What do you mean you don't have Bud Light?"

Honestly don't think I have. I have such low expectations of the city I live in (beer wise) that I cannot possibly be duped...

I'm thinking most people here live in or around a city. Living in a New England suburb sucks. I'd rather enjoy it if I could have a draft selection like that!

My best bet is a BBC 20 minutes away. They have some good local brews on tap from time to time (clown shoes, wormtown, etc). There IS The Yard House over in Dedham, but still...that's a 35 minute drive for me and the prices can sometimes be outrageous. Might as well drive down to Providence at that point.

All I'm saying is...some of y'all sound like you're taking your options for granted. Be grateful and enjoy what you've got!

There is a Hooters in the same casino (Tropicana) however I don't recall them being connected.

Haha. QFT! When my brother and I take my dad out to beer bars in Boston, he always complains about this!

...He no longer joins us when we go out to have a few drinks.

That isn't too bad of a place for a 10 sec drive.

There's lots of bro-craft places around here and more are popping up. They fill all the taps with the big brands and the local watered down craft beer always paired with seasonals. Bros love seasonals. The optimistic might call it approachable craft beer.

I've never done any research on the term, but I'd guess "taproom" could date from the pre-Prohibition era but it certainly was very common after Repeal - with the general outlawing of the term "saloon" in many states, and the use rise of alternate/euphemisms like "Bar & Grill" "Tavern" etc. I've seen "taproom" used frequently for hotel bars (especially swanky downtown joints) and, on the other end of the spectrum, for bowling alley bars. But it was common for just the standard "corner bar", too (Pennsylvania was loaded with the latter.)

Certainly in the pre-craft and multi-tap era, I'd expect they'd have had the same number of taps than any other bar of the time - 2-4 (often all serving the same beer.)

Tiny place very close to where I live in NJ. No BMC on tap or in bottles, ever.

Plenty of AB/InBev beer: Goose Island Christmas Ale, Matilda, Sofie and Bourbon County. They should get rid of them and put in some more craft beer.

I have not had Six Point's Spice of Life. Have you had it? Any opinions of it? This is becoming one of my favorite newly discovered breweries. Can't get enough Bengali Tiger! And the descriptions they put on each can are AWESOME!

"They should be good men; their affairs as righteous: But all hoods make not monks. Beneath a deep blanket of snow there is a cereal grain that can survive the harsh winters and acidic soils - RYE. Like a draped hood over a monk, it is the righteousness inside that shines."

I suppose I should've typed out Bud/Miller/Coors, but I thought folks would pick up on my abbreviation. (sarcasm) And yes, I realize that Goose Island sold out.

I really enjoy what Sixpoint is doing. If I remember correctly, this was the Simcoe variant. I've had both the Citra and Simcoe and liked them both. Mad Scientist #9 (cacao husks) was fantastic, which makes me excited to try 3Beans.

I've been to upper echelon beer bars and left because their were less options for me than what is on that board.

I am happy if there is just one beer I want to drink on a menu.

There is a new chain around here called "Hop Jacks" with hops in the logo and everything. They do have a couple decent beers on tap but they are not a beer-centric establishment let alone hop-centric. The burgers are decent though.
