I was also impressed with the Stone Farking Wheaton W00tstout (except for the ridiculous-looking bottle art).

Boulevard Dark Truth and Evil Twin Lil' B for truly year-round non-BA imperial stouts. Yes, Lil' B. There is no objective difference between porter and stout post-1950, and certainly no difference between an "imperial porter" and an imperial stout.

Only know of two year-round BA stouts, one of which (Palo Santo Marron) is labelled a brown ale for marketing purposes. That one's good; the other one, Dragon's Milk, is also good.

In practice, Sierra Nevada Narwhal and Brooklyn Chocolate Stout are basically year-round; I give both of those a leg up on Dark Truth personally.

Can't believe Green Flash Double Stout has not been mentioned yet. American-style double stout, available all year, $7.99 for a 4 pack at Trader Joe's.

These might not technically be year round, but they are certainly readily available most of the year.

Am I wrong in remembering regular Speedway is $15 per bottle? I don't see that as a reasonably priced beer, really.

Clown Shoes Undead Party Crasher is probably my favorite good, cheap, year round RIS.

There have been a lot of good suggestions in this thread already in terms of stuff that's year round, or nearly so, and readily available, and also to be found in New York state, where the OP actually is.

One that fits the bill that hasn't been mentioned so far is Uinta's Labryinth, a really quality BA imperial stout that gets overlooked a lot, IMO. I always seeing this beer sitting on shelves, people be sleepin. You can find vintage bottles around without much trouble. Not particularly inexpensive (15ish for a 750ml) but I never regret buying, and drinking, one of these.

Well OP did say American... And many breweries make the Russian/American distinction pretty clear on their labels or description.

In no particular order......Serpent Stout, Speedway Stout, Abyss, Founders Breakfast, Big Bad Baptist, Peche Mortel (yes, I know....Canadian), Old Viscosity, Track #10, Bomb!, and Chocolate Rain (yes, I know......not even close to year round). None of these, save Chocolate Rain, are remotely difficult to find, at least in CA. And all are top notch.

And this doesn't even take into account Russian Imperials like Old Raspy (available for ~$10/4 pack any day of the week) and Ten Fidy.

This is completely contradictory to OP's intent but I think it has to be said that FIS, IRS, Ten FIDY, Narwhal and even Raspy are all great imperial stouts but they are all better with between 1-2 years on them. For my money, the best imperial straight off the shelf is FBS. Often taken for granted (myself included) but a go-to pretty much anytime. I would put another vote in for Bomb! if it were more readily available here.

Probably ten fidy or bomb, ten fidy being a bit more common, both too expensive but still great

Big Bad Baptist is the best year round offering not only that is inexpensive comparatively. $12-$14 for a 750ml and it ages very well.

Per ounce, two or maybe three of them are. Vanilla Noir and World Wide Stout. Possibly Chocolate Manifesto but I can't remember.

3 pages and no mention of Green Flash Double Stout. A got-dang good ol' American Imperial Stout. One of the first imperial stouts I fell in love with. I love a lot of the beers mentioned in this thread of course. Speedway is one of my favs but I think the coffee shifts that into a different category for me, same as Victory at Sea. As for year-round easily available stouts in my area, I would also add Bell's Expedition to my list. So many great imperial stouts are technically seasonal.

    Parabola - FW

    Sea Monster - BP

and, of course, there are many others that should fit the bill...
