Favorite: Thought it was the classic IPA, which is brilliant, but it's probably fallen into a tie now with IRS -- this year's batch is an absolute steal at the prices we get out West.

Least: I'm one of those folks who got weird onion/garlic vibes out of Go To -- really didn't care for it. Levitation also had some way off flavors. And I'm in zero way averse to the low ABV ales/session IPA sort of stuff -- living in a warm climate, that stuff has a serious place in my fridge. But those two just didn't work for me.

Ah, forgot about Sublimely -- make it a three-way tie then b/w that, IRS, and IPA. Sublimely > Wookey Jack, and I say that as a major FW fan.

I prefer Wookey, also said as a huge FW fan, but it is quite close between that and SSR—and honestly, if they sold SSR at Costco for $4.29/bomber (as they do WJ), I might change my mind

I wouldn't go quite that far, but I do think they're massively overhyped—however, I totally respect Stone's focus on setting up distro to emphasize freshness.

The best beer I've had from Stone was RuinTen, fresh, on tap in DC. It's everything I want out a big, sticky, boozy, monster DIPA and then some. If I have to pick something from the main line, then probably Double Bastard. Stone seems to be at their best when they're making big, sticky, boozy monsters.

The worst? Calling out Punishment would be too easy, wouldn't it? So how about their 16th anny IPA. It's good, if you like drinking Lemon Pledge that is. And while it's definitely not their worst, Stone IRS was really damn underwhelming considering its legendary status.

Haven't had many of their brews yet but of those I've tried "Stochasticity" was my fav. My vote for worst goes to "Levitation" which I was very underwhelmed by.

in fairness, i can certainly see why someone would call stone overrated. many of their beers are extremely, even unpleasantly, bitter while lacking other flavors, yet they get rave reviews all around. but i'm with you. Enjoy by is very tasty and quite drinkable.

the stochasticity grapefruit slam ipa was pretty good, least favorite is still go to but i think the most overhyped is their regular, stone IPA, even though it isn't expensive to me it is just such an unimpressive IPA.

Favorite: Arrogant Bastard; I always have a bomber in my fridge. Close second is Ruination. It truly made me realize that I am a hophead at heart.

Least: Belgo-Anise. I see that I am definitely not alone in that sentiment.

"While lacking other flavors", if the bitterness is totally overpowering the fruity Centennial flavors in Stone IPA and Ruination, or the big sticky caramel malt in Arrogant Bastard, your palate might just not be ready. I think most people (definitely me) find Stone's beers to be very flavorful.

The correct answer for favorite is Bitter Chocolate Oatmeal Stout (12th anniversary). A true masterpiece of an imperial stout before the style was cool.

Least favorite? Crime and/or Punishment. I've also found some of their odd beers for odd years strange as well, but not as appalling as the aforementioned chili beers.

Not to discount your opinion, but first time I had Levitation, I too disliked it. By the time I reached the end of the sixer, it grew on me quite a bit.

Levitation's style needs to be taken into account, too. If you're not a fan of light/session ales, or reds, of course you probably won't like it.

As for "imperial stout before it was cool", I'm confused; Stone IRS was released years before the 12th anniversary.

    Favorite: IPA, Enjoy by 4/20.

Least Favorite: Smoked Porter, Levitation. Haven't tried Crime or Punishment, and I can't bring myself to splurge twenty bucks for a beer that promises heat and little else.

There's a lot of bourbon with that heat, too, but I wouldn't expect to like it if you don't eat a lot of hot food. I liked Crime, but then again most people don't eat a couple pounds of chiles every week. Haven't tried my Punishment yet, but I've been meaning to pick up a couple more bottles of both.

i have never tried centennial, i am actually a big fan of arrogant bastard, what i meant was, as i may have said in my OP , other COMPLIMENTARY flavors. i do not mind bitterness, for instance in go to i don't think the bitterness is overpowering i just think that it needs to compliment other flavors, not stand out strongly on it's own. and i just find stone IPA to be a very average IPA, not a bad beer just not a standout.

My favorite is Sublimely Self-Righteous Black IPA. This stuff is amazing, complex and awesome.

My Least favorite is Stone Go To IPA. Tasted like a watered down brew. I'd rather have a BMC any day over this junk.
