I'm sure they could make enough juicy bits to put in six packs in the front range. Do i know this? No not really. But I'm sure they could.

I'm not sure how many barrels WeldWerks plans on brewing this year. I think they brewed 600 barrels their first year. Let's say they brew 1000 barrels of *just* Juicy Bits. That's about enough to put 5 cases every week into roughly 200 liquor stores and leaves none for the taproom.

Despite the relatively quick turnaround on brewing a beer like this, I'm sure it's incredibly expensive to make. Keeping it out of cans means they can make however much they want, including keeping virtually all of it in the taproom at a much better markup.

To say nothing of the necessary hop contracts and/or expansion requirements, my guess is they stand to make substantially less per barrel in the short term if they were to can Juicy Bits. I'm sure as soon as their business people determine it's economically feasible for them, they will take a hard look at canning that beer.

Yep, it gets complicated for a small brewery. Just another reason to be thankful you can pick up sixers of Bout Damn Time more and more consistently :sunglasses:

They definitely raised the prices then. Was at the taproom a few weeks ago and definitely didn't pay those prices. I'm going tomorrow so I guess I'll get ***** on a $9 pint

I've had noob and wasn't a fan but DDH Noob was awful! I didn't finish my 16oz pour.. not sure what it was but it was pretty bad. Last few odd 13 releases have been awful imo and I like odd 13. The ddh superdan was excellent. galaxy wizard, holiday fan etc all great. But last few seem rushed or something

I hear ya. I heard the DDH Hop Wizard was the same. In fact, they couldn't sell their stock and shipped it out across the front range so I got to try it and can attest to this.

Just because it has more hops doesn't make it any better. Sometimes yes, but not in this case where the beers are already dry hopped to hell.

Those DDH beers from them will probably be great in like a month, haha.

Do you mind me asking what you didn't like about Citra DDH n00b? There was definitely a carbonation issue (it was under-carbonated) early yesterday because of a miscommunication between front of house and back of house regarding when the carb stone should be shut off. I'm told that has since been corrected. I'm curious whether it was carbonation or something else.

Yeah, its a curious take. I went in Saturday afternoon (after the carbonation issues were fixed) and enjoyed the DDH noob just fine. I thought the citra DDHing was really interesting. Also I was a vocal critic on here of the DDH Hop Wizard, but I would not call that beer (nor any other beer O13 makes) awful. Not sure about what other recent releases @Fitshaced was talking about but I really liked the sours that they put out recently (Bartleby) and my gf loved the fruited Anzu IPA. While I might not love all the beers that Odd13 put out, I am glad that they keep innovating and pushing their comfort zone.

Personally, ive got my fingers crossed that they release another DIPA or TIPA soon because the Robot Librarian and Holidayfan are still two of my favorite Colorado ipas to date.

Awful was definitely to strong of a word I should have used a better one. I really have not enjoyed the last few releases. The hackin Henry, chameleon I think was the name? And now ddh noob. When I was in there I did try the empress which I did really enjoy and left with a growler of it. I haven't tried any of the bottled sours.

I can't put my finger on why I didn't care for DDH noob. But I was there at 1:30 and Brandon's ex girlfriend now wife did say there is a carbonation issue before we ordered it. I didn't think much of it really. I assumed the taste would be the same and that it might just be a little flat, but I could be wrong? Citra is my favorite hop so I was surprised I didn't love this beer..

Yes. I always treat crowlers like perishable goods, for better or worse. I feel like hoppy crowlers should be consumed within 1 week, esp if you are shipping it across the country. Malty/strong ones could last longer, but you are taking a risk. Also, because of the human element, the quality of fill is variable. Some people purge crowlers with CO2 before filling, some do not. Some cap over thick foam, some let the foam die down before "capping". Filling a crowler properly is a slow, methodical process that takes time in the taproom.

But IMO, any crowler or growler that you get, what you do with it after you pay is your business. But if you are unhappy with the product after holding onto it for a long time... that's on you.

Also to be fair on the Henry I got a strong onion flavor, not sure why? I know summit hops weren't used.. which they never should be.

Chameleon I got blueberry flavor and be to fair I don't like blueberries so that is why I didn't Care for Chameleon.

DDH noob I really can't put my finger on why I didn't care for it..

In related news, I recently tried Odd13's Hop Troll Idaho 7 on tap. So delicious. I really wish I'd gotten my hands on some of it when it was distro'd.

Well, blueberry is definitely in the list of descriptors for Mosaic, which is the primary hop in regular n00b and is definitely a big part of DDH as well. We're releasing our next taproom only beer this weekend and it uses Mosaic lupulin powder. I'm curious whether you have a similar reaction to that. I don't think it tastes much like n00b.

Re: onion in Henry, that's likely the Eureka. It's a weird Hop because sometimes is presents more dank/oniony and other times it's more fruity. When we did Hop Troll Eureka in the taproom, I swear I'd smell/taste something different every time I tried it, even a few minutes apart.

@rscot231 this weekend's release sounds very interesting. Could you please describe the beer a little more to us? thanks!

I've actually never gotten blueberry flavor from the mosaic hopped beers I have had before. I love mosaic I usually get really fruity flavors but not blueberries and the nose is usually very floral to me.. definitely will be in to try the new release this weekend

My two cents: if you're going to describe a beer as terrible, awful, not good, etc., and we have the pleasure (I mean this sincerely) of having breweries, brewers, etc. on here asking what we want, and actually listening to customers' feedback (this is actually very rare in business in general these days), we owe it to them to have a specific reason why.

Otherwise, it amounts to "I don't like this beer," which is an opinion, plain and simple. Very different than suggesting something is wrong with a beer.

Playing devil's advocate here a bit, but pretty much everything we say about beer on here is an opinion. I think just being on this site you have to understand that

Sure. This release is a collaboration with Upslope. We took this chance to brew an IPA with 100% lupulin powder, and they brewed the same beer with 100% hop extract using the same varieties. They're both IPAs with zero leaf matter. Both versions are brewed with our house strain of Conan yeast - Upslope grabbed a pitch from us.

Lupulin powder seems to be the new hotness these days. It's twice as expensive as pellet hops, but you use half as much and it improves yields so it's a cost savings overall. We wanted to see what flavor profiles we get from it to see if we should convert a large portion of our contract over.

The beer is a pretty standard grain bill for one of our IPAs because the goal here was to create something to showcase the lupulin powder. It's pils base malt, wheat, oats, and a touch of Vienna. Other than that, it's a similar total hop load to Superfan, which is about 1.5 lbs of powder per BBL total. That's the equivalent of about 3 lbs/BBL of pellets. We used hops we are very familiar with (Simcoe and Mosaic) that are available in both powder and extract form.

I am really digging the end result. It's a really clean expression of the fruit characteristics from those two hops without any vegetal character. I could be imagining it, but I also think the mouthfeel is slightly different from our other IPAs. It reminds me of some other producers of the style. I don't know whether to chalk that up to the lupulin powder or something else, but we did try to minimize the number of variables by using a familiar grain bill and our house yeast. Anyway, I've been through two six packs since we canned it on Friday.
