I can get on board with some spritzy fresh Sofie, but my first experience with fresh Matilda was kind of like the other poster- I found it to be perfectly fine, but that was about it. It wasn't until that last bottle at the store sat on the shelf for over a year and I gave it a second chance that it really clicked with me.

Night Stalker is not a Bourbon County Stout, but if you want to rule out all stouts - then Pere Jacques.

Goose Island Four Sisters. They are more pricey and IMO not as good as their Belgium counterparts, but still very solid

Either Madame Rose or Pepe Nero. Not a lot of people talk about Pepe Nero but I thought it was a really cool beer.

Christmas Ale. I think it's called Festivity Ale now. I have two bottles of 2012 left. Thoroughly enjoyed that one!

Pere Jacques hands down... haven't laid hands to any BCBS or the like yet, though... still something special/different about a PJ with a year or two on it!

Green Line for sure. I am a fan of a lot of their beers, but when I go to Chicago that is the first Goose I will drink.

    The Illinois. Under appreciated IPA.

I drink more Honkers than anything else they do, followed by Sofie and Matilda.

I wish I could still get Mild Winter. That one really worked for me, and I rarely come across English-style dark Milds by American brewers.

Heh. I don't do much cellaring so I was pleased to find myself the beneficiary of Matilda shelf neglect syndrome myself. A year or so really does make it a markedly better brew.

Yeah- gotta check those dates (only in the opposite sense than it's normally done ). Thankfully it's pretty easy to find them (Matilda and Sofie) with 6 months to a year, still.

I really need to try some of that, it's just that one more IPA on shelves is deterring to me. Then again, I came to this thread to post that I've always liked the Goose IPA as a staple when I'm craving some hop in my beer; not over-the-top, but just right at the right times.

Some of my favorites, and I'd even take them over any Bourbon County:
    Vainglorious
    Nutulhu
Meridian IPA with mango and chilis thru a Randal
312...when first made, not anywhere close to the same beer anymore sadly
Demolition...from the original batch and still one of my all time favs

Sofie easily. I really liked the Harvest when it was around as well.
