Nelson, Citra, Galaxy, Mosaic to name a few. Citra out front at the moment...

 

though the thread surely was going to attract nothing but American pale ale, American IPA and American double IPA hop-heads, hops are hops. and i've had some lagers that are *very* hoppy. so i threw in my $0.02.

if all i want is a hop salad, honestly I'm not sure which hops are my favorites ... Stone's Enjoy By has 9 different hops in it, so i like all 9? Sierra Nevada's Celebration Ale is awesome, so i like that blend of cascade, centennial and chinook. Sierra Nevada's Torpedo has citra in it, but how much? i don't know, but i love that brew ... and when i want the big citrus/pine taste, i've found handfuls of American ales/IPAs/DIPAs that are fantastic.

but over time, i am finding more and more that i enjoy balance more than anything, and while "balance" means a good amount of malt, it also means a good amount of hops. there's plenty of styles in which you can get that balance, including in the American ale styles, but for me, the spiciness and grassy taste of the nobles (in a 40+ IBU range) melting into a big bready yeasty sweetness ... it leaves me with no doubt that the noble hops are my favorite. *and* i'm glad there are some Texas breweries using them and using them well.

dude, brew it ... or fly to Germany, break into a brewery with a sackful of citra and torpedo one of their pils vats.

does nobody make a brew like this? it's a great idea. it'd break the German purity law something fierce, but screw that ... we need to try it!

 

Yeah, I saw that. It looks really interesting. I'm going to set up an ISO for it and Simtra. Have you had either? What did you think?

 

Nelson Sauvin; it's unique tropical and grape-like flavors I find fascinating.

Big ups to Cenntinial, Simcoe, Citra, Amarillo and Cascade and all the other hops I've loved.

 

I haven't had either. Prairie Hop is in my fridge and I'll drink it soon. I've brewed a Citra Simcoe beer and it was pretty tasty, but it smelled like a cat pissing on a pine tree.

 

Haha, yeah. Have you had Fresh Squeezed yet? That's a stanky brew.

 

Yes. I thought it had a dank hop aroma without pee and had too much caramel malt to fully appreciate the flavor of the hops. It was ok.

 

The best hops are without a doubt CHINOOK!!

None, or all. I think people get a little too HOPPED up on thinking they like this hop or over the next.
example: does Knee Deep's Citra hop profile taste the same as Zombie Dust? Both are all Citra pale ales.

The yeast effects the flavor, but for the most part, hops take on a lot of different flavors, and just because you use Simcoe or Citra, it doesn't mean you're making the most Tropical, Dank beer out there.

Just sayin.

Most of my favourite beers seem to contain some of these: Fuggles, Goldings, WGV, Challenger, Styrian Goldings, Saaz, Tettnang, Hallertau, Strisselspalt

I dry hopped my homebrewed berliner weisse with Nelson Sauvin, and it's now definitely up there among my favorite hops now.

 

It's like asking which is your favorite child....

Actually, I am very fond of Cascade and Simcoe, of course. I also love Northern Brewer, believe it or not. But a perennial favorite for me, which shows up in lots of my beers where you might not even expect it, is Saaz. I just love the subdued peppery impression.

 

Amarillo for me. Gumballhead and Amarillo Brillo by Maumee Bay Brewing are great beers featuring Amarillo hops.

Well Citra, Nelson, Centennial, and Simcoe are really good too.

 

Chinook right now. It pairs well with all the hot new hops. Chinook + citra, my favorite homebrew combo.

 

Satisfaction Jackson is all Cenntenial

 

No way to pick just one hop or beer.

Whatever the 5 hops in NG Moon Man are, followed by...

Centennial - Two Hearted
Amarillo - Ballistic IPA (Ale Asylum)
Citra - Pseudo Sue (Toppling Goliath), Bedlam (Ale Asylum)

 

Using only whole cone Horizon has been working really well for hombrewed Pale ales and IPA's.

 

Let's not forget Willamette either

My favorite California IPA is Alpine Nelson, so Nelson Sauvin.
