    I'm just gonna say it... Greg sucks! ;

He rambles on for 7 minutes before he cracks the brew. The food/cheese pairings need to go. The endless rants on dating are played out and repetitive. Now he's focused on IBUs, which just goes to show his lack of knowledge. He spews misinformation all the time regarding breweries, brews, etc. Finally as far as tasting notes go, I don't think he really smells or tastes what he is saying. He just spouts off typical flavors & aromas you would expect from that style.

    /rant.

This is hilarious. You think Darwin is forced and robotic, yet you enjoy Chris and his pop of bitterness.

I think if you pay attention to Darwin closely, you'll learn that he is as essute a taster as there is on YouTube. He regularly talks about fruits, spices, adjuncts that he randomly tastes just so he can be familiar with them in order to properly use them in beer reviews.

I'd agree if you said he's got a process he follows every time, but I wouldn't call him robotic. He knows his stuff and his videos never seem predetermined. I always think he's breaking down the beer in front of the camera. That makes it authentic to me rather than robotic.

Chris admitted to doing this during a Q & A Facebook a while back. He's also a qualityliquorstore hack. That site and its pricing are horrible. I get it, he wants to profit off his channel, but his reviews are a waste of time #teamGreg #teamDarwin #teamClementshomebrew #teamMasterOfHoppets #TeamJoeS, don't remember his name but the behind the bar guy is super annoying, but his reviews are spot on.

I appreciate the kind words for me a person and love input. It's been so many videos and I still need to improve.
I'm curious if you can elaborate on "forced and exhausting."
I try to offer as wide of a range of tasting notes as I can, along with beer/brewery comparisons to hone in on what I am trying to describe.

I speed up many other YouTube videos. That's I keep things short and sweet. Thanks for throwing me on your list!

Again, love the input. I'm curious what you appreciate as a viewer as more appropriate.

I do have reasons for why I do that. The swirl releases the aroma better, as with the creation of that wonderful colloid head allows you to trap the aroma. Then digging in with the nose is the best way to get as much as you can with short quick snifts.

This is such an incredibly flattering comment. I hugely appreciate it. I do my best to do what you describe and separate myself in that sense.

Is there any Youtuber or source in general that isn't hugely partial to double IPAs, imperial stouts (especially with additives), barrel aged anything and sours while simultaneously shitting on any kind of lager? I get it--you like extreme flavors, the kind that, for me, overpower any kind of pairing, whether it be food or friends or conversation. But there's so much more in regard to styles. The beauty is in the nuance. Every beer reviewer on Youtube that I loosely follow (Greg's Beer Review, Darwin, Beer Geek Nation, Massive Beer Reviews) craps on all lagers regardless of style, simply doesn't review lagers or is completely biased toward these in-your-face, blow-your-palate-out-of-your-mouth, sipper styles.

Not usually a show but Four Brewers has had some video versions of their podcasts on YouTube. I love that podcast For Me it's like hanging out with friends at a bottle share. One of my favorite videos of their podcast was episode 32 of season 2 it was cool to have a visual of the green flash/alpine debate at the time. Also they do Cheap Beer Corner and the Four Brewers Quickie. It's usually good for some laughs and while I don't always agree with their opinions I like what they have to say about what they are drinking.

That's society these days. So many people need to be figuratively hit over the head with a sledgehammer to get their attention. Whether it's music or movies or beer or whatever, the more bombastic and extreme it is, supposedly the better. Now I imagine all the knuckle draggers will assault me with their "Get off of my lawn" retorts, lol.

Anyways, there's a place in the world for both kinds of beers (and movies and music etc), the more extreme and the more subtle. It's just getting some people to realize that is the problem.

I think Darwin does a good job at highlighting different styles. Sure, there's still a lot of big hops, but if you look through his vids you'll see more variety than anyone else. From what I've seen, he def does not shit on these styles either.

In general, I'm bored with most reviewers because it's the same stuff over and over. I like Darwin the most cuz he'll mix it up, he gives great notes, and his vids are quick. I also like Erik Wood cuz he's ultra honest and straight forward (though I miss Jon).

I get that sentiment totally ... I fall into the "big beer" trap a ton, all told though a lot of that comes from beers that friends and viewers send to me for review. I end up feeling like I have a duty to get "given/sent" beers up and on so a lot of a beers get pushed back in the queue.

That being said I should try and even-seven that shit out. I mean, I pride myself on throwing tons of old school, vastly underrepresented European/Belgian jams up, and while I have peppered in quite a few lagers/pilsners, I totally have left a lot of those styles wanting.

It's a tough, and most first worldly of roads to hoe, but your totally effing right.

Balance is the key ... so hopefully with "smaller" styles becoming more prominent my 'ish won't look like hoppy-roofie-town!

I watch most of those listed, and added a couple from this thread.

I'm new to Darwin and enjoying his reviews.

Thank you, to the content creators. You've helped me find many of my favorite beers.

I don't beer trade, so I won't be trying many of the whales, but I still like learning about them.

That said, I do watch more reviews about beers that are available to me.

My point being, if you're a newer creator don't overlook throwing in the widely available beers.

Obviously don't skip a whale to do it, but maybe just mix 'em in for filler.

What I'd like to see more of? Blind tasting.

It's not that I want to watch anyone crash and burn, it's interesting seeing what people pull up without prompts.

    Ideally, a couple blind sips.

    Talk about the beer.

    Reveal the beer.

    A couple more sips.

Talk about what you pull up that you missed blind, or what you're not finding regardless of the brewer's description.

My favorite is definitely @dar482 because he actually seems like he has a good palate and knowledge of beer. His reviews are to the point and he smells and taste notes i don't head in other videos. He also seems like a nice guy and actually puts effort into replying to people and spreading his knowledge.

second favorite is master of hoppets. He is genuine and has been in this game for a long time. You can see his love for beer and how he does not look up the beer to sound like he is spot on.

    Third favorite is joe.

Worst reviewer is Greg. How anyone likes his reviews amazes me. I doubt he smells ost of the stuff he says he smells. There's some dank oniony IPA that he swears have pineapple, tangerine etc etc. Second off all the beers he gets people send to him and then he begs people for beer and wants more than one often. Lastly he puts zero effort to replying to his fans and just replies a thank or a short message unless they comment saying they want to send him a beer. He puts effort into those replies and then once he gives them his information and they comment some more he just says thanks. He is not like the other reviewers that go out of their way to get stuff and seem to care more about their subs.

I looooooove the whole blind tasting thing, but it's soooooo hard to set up proper. Even if you have a fridge of say 10 beers and you have a third party set it up you still have an inkling of what you're up against.

That being said a friend dropped these off on me over the weekend ... zero clue what is behind these labels, should be fun as hell butchering all of these

Depends on whether you want blind comparison or true blind.

It's easy to buy 2-3 beers and do they blind in comparison to each other, knowing what they are.

But you're completely right with stuff like your can situation. Wish I had that. It's not easy to find people willing to give or buy you beers to review blind.

True that ... I've done my fair share of blind comparisons IRL, but never had the hankering to do them review wise ... I'll have to change that!

And yeah, I got luck when a friend said he wanted to drop a bunch of beers on me, before he could tell me whats what I asked him to blind them for me Should be a fun experiment!

I pretty much only watch Darwin, Joe, BeerGeekNation (chris), Ryerson, and Pete (Master of Hoppets). However Darwin and Ryerson's bias towards east coast beer annoys the f*^K out of me. They fanboy anything form the east coast and shit on west coast beer like it's no tomorrow.

Joe gives an honest assessment, loving east coast beer but being west coast born, and Pete (out in Denmark) is just happy to see any American beer near him.
