So I shipped a small box (9lbs) out from a FedEx office in DC today going to Ohio, expecting to pay the normal $15 or so. The lady ringing me up says "$24.43". The actual price of the box was $14.43 and there was a $10(!) handling fee tacked onto the price of the box. I know other shipping centers do this, but I'd never encountered it at an actual FedEx office location. I sent a 16lb box to Wisconsin about a week ago from a different FedEx office and it didn't cost me as much as this one did. What gives? Has this happened to anyone else?
I know that through using a FedEx account, discounts are provided. Maybe that wasn't the case for you here, but it's worth mentioning.
I would contact the place you went through, ask them what it is part of and if there would be a way to wave it unless they want to lose your business bc you are setting up a Fedex acct. Some of the we places that have those things, esp the "we sell your Ebay" business make a raping from that packing.
Are you positive it's a real Fedex shipper and not just a 3rd party using the Fedex name? What's the name/location of the store?
Nope, it's a bona fide FedEx Office Print and Ship Center in DC, zip is 20008. I made sure it wasn't a third party because I'd been jobbed before with extra fees. I guess I know now that I won't be using that location any more. Any other District BAs run into this? It's the shop inside the Wardman Park Marriott in Woodley Park.
Never had that issue in DC. I have used the FedEx store on Wisconsin near Calvert (20007) without any trouble (dropping off packages and occasionally paying for shipping there).
I shipped from a Fedex in a hotel in downtown SF. There was an extra surcharge due to the Fedex being in the hotel.
