Howdy PNWers! I am making my way out to Seattle for the first time, but I will only be on the ground for about 24 hours, most of which will be spent driving, sleeping, and eating, so I'll have relatively little time to shop and drink.

Please let me know what the top places are where I MUST stop to either drink or shop. I'll have a car, so I can get pretty much anywhere.

    Thank you in advance!

    P.S. posting IP trade shortly.

More to the point, where will you be staying? We can recommend some places close to your hotel so you don't have to worry about driving after your drinking. Stay safe. Then, of course, there's always Uber or transit.

I haven't booked a hotel yet. I plan to do more shopping than drinking, and I'm getting in late from Denver and taking the red eye out the following night, so "near my hotel" doesn't really matter.

I'm coming in from Denver next Monday night.

Holy Mountain should be number one on your list IMO. After that, Fremont, Reuben's just about anything on the list posted by Distantmantra. You really can't go wrong. Have a good time and post back what you end up doing.

Alrighty - here's the breakdown. I had plenty of time to shop / drink before heading to the airport, so I really made the rounds:

After taking care of business in Bellingham, I stopped at Elizabeth Station. Didn't buy anything, but I had a small pour of Wander BA Early Bird.

Next stop: Beer Authority - bought a Skookum Deep Color

Next: Bob's Liquors - bought one of the few remaining bottles of Chocolate, Vanilla, Maple KDS

Next: Toronado - sadly, they were closed yesterday for undisclosed reasons

Next: Chuck's Hop Shop (Greenwood) - really cool store. Had a Chuck's / Great Notion collab IPA while I shopped. Bought a Postdoc Demon Star, Matchless Ol' Lifewine, and Melvin BA Ruckus

Next: Bottleworks - their taps weren't working for some reason. I bought a Fort George Sign of the Wolf

I decided to skip Fremont and Holy Mountain - neither had anything I desired to try on tap or take home.

After that I finally got something to eat.

Next: Vine Street Market - just bought a Skookum Solitary Confinement

Next: Chuck's Hop Shop (Central District) - this place was hopping. I had an awesome flight: Boulevard BA 30th, Elysian BA Barleywine, Fort George Coconut Matryoshka, and plain KDS. I also bought a bottle of Reuben's anniversary BA Stout

Last stop: Full Throttle Bottles - bought a Block15 Super Nebula, Bainbridge 7th anniversary BA Stout, and a Hellshire IX.

And everything made it back safely to Newark, so all in all a great success.

    Thanks for your help!

When were you here again? I stopped in at Bottleworks on Halloween to get a growler fill and all their taps were down. I'm really hoping that's not still the case.

I arrived late Monday night and took the red-eye out last night, so I was only on the ground for about 22 hours. As of yesterday the taps at Bottleworks were down.

Still, a week? One would think that a good customer could get a better response.

A city the size of Seattle? With as many bars, breweries, restaurants, stores, and other outlets that heavily rely on HVAC components, that there wasn't a piece on a shelf, somewhere between Salem and Blaine, that could have been delivered in hours, or at least overnight?

More to the story. Shit, Amazon coulda dropped the stuff overnight.

I mean, not like both of them ever have crazy world class stuff available frequently not posted online instantly or anything. I would call this an Epic Fail Sorry OP you did wrong. EFSOP

Have to say that's a pretty crazy day regardless, surprised you didn't make it to Vancouver and back as well :grinning:

Welp, as you can tell from my stash, I'm a big BA drinker and not much of an IPA drinker. Also, HM had plenty of saisons on tap and to take home, but they distribute a bunch of saisons to the east coast. Furthermore, I had more driving to do, and I didn't want to drink too much before I ate anything. Finally, the fact that I even fit 16 beers in my bag was an accomplishment; I usually don't bring back more than 12.

More finally, I slept only a couple hours Sunday night because I had a very early flight out on Monday to Denver. Then my flight from Denver to SeaTac was delayed 3 hours so I didn't get to my hotel until 1am. By the time I showered, sent an important e-mail, and got to sleep, it was nearly 2:30 am (that's 5:30am Eastern, so I had been awake 25 hours straight, for those keeping score at home). I got woken up around 7:15am to the dulcet tones of my boss sending me messages, at which point I got on the road up to Bellingham. So after all that flying/driving and not sleeping, I had to make a few tough choices.

So as you can see, it was a combination of factors that led me to skip those two places. However, since I don't accept claims of committing EPSOPs lightly, I will certainly attempt to stop at those two breweries next time I'm in town. You, @JonnyBeers are, of course, invited.

I was surprised as well, they've got a few time sensitive fresh hop kegs just languishing while it doesn't get fixed.

I reached out to BW on Instagram and asked about it, they said they'll be fixed by tomorrow at the latest.

I don't really want to speak for them too much but I don't think it's as easy as that. First you have to figure out if it can be fixed then you need to get a few bide because you probably aren't replacing that yourself. They've been there for a while so maybe it's older equipment and something of the shelf might not fit easily. It sucks for them and for their customers but it's not as simple as ordering something on Amazon.

They've been doing no corkage on cans and bottles while it's down which is a great deal with their inventory.

Sure, but, it ain't rocket surgery. I'd be surprised if they don't have a regular HVAC company they deal with. A good, long time customer should be getting better service. Again, it's only 270 miles from the Oregon border to the Canadian border. There are plenty of old businesses in that corridor. Parts aren't really that unique. Even if the right part was only in Key West, Fedex/UPS would have it here 2nd day, latest. Something is off here.

Maybe @Superheatnsubcool has insight I'm missing.

I work for a company that specializes in residential HVAC. However, many of our customers have wine cellars with dedicated refrigeration systems, so I can hypothesize about the situation.

I don’t know much about beer draft systems, but I’ll assume that the compressor in question is part of the system responsible for refrigerating the kegs of beer.

If I find a failed compressor in Seattle, best case scenario is that a suitable replacement is available somewhere within a 30 mile radius. Depending on how close it is, and the urgency of the situation, the compressor could theoretically be replaced the same day. It can take around 8 hours of labor to replace a compressor and it’s ancillary electrical components.

Worst case scenario, their equipment is old and uses a refrigerant that has been phased out due to being ozone depleting. Or maybe it has more issues than just the compressor. Compressors rarely die a natural death. That might necessitate replacing essentially the entire refrigeration system, which in this case is probably a walk-in refrigerator of some type. Doing major work like that requires permits to be approved by the City of Seattle, which can take considerable time.

Still, the draft beer system seems pretty critical to a business like Bottleworks, and one would think that the equipment would be repaired or replaced as quickly as possible.

Any newish places in Bellevue to check out? I thought there was a place in Bellevue Square opening, but I can't find it now. I've always enjoyed the old dive of the Pumphouse for some reason as the Embassy Suites will drop me off there.
