Five Points in Athens

I go everytime I am in the area. Definitely worth the trip in my opinion...

Yep, great spot, well worth the visit, not to mention all the other beer destinations in Athens. Make a day trip out of it!

 

I managed a stop in there about a month ago after dinner at 5 +10. Definitely worth checking out. College kids don't have the beer $$$ that you do so it doesn't get picked clean as often as the ATL stores.

 

This is my go-to store. When something runs out here, or I can't find something, I make the drive out to Athens to 5 Points. They also have an amazing bourbon selection!

 

5 Points ROCKS! Worth the trip

 

Just for the record when I go down to Athens from here in Greenville, it is for the sole purpose of going to 5 Points (both locations). The rest (Aroma's, Terrapin, etc.) just comes with the territory...

 

I've heard you can get quite a few beers at 5 points that you can't get around the ATL stores. not sure if that's true or not, just curious.

 

David - It is true as stated earlier. The college kids want BMC leaving the good stuff for You and Meee!

 

If you are talking stuff that has come and gone from ATL shelves (seasonal/recent limited release), then yes, 5 Points does have a good selection. NE GA does also get some slightly different distribution than ATL, so you may find a couple of things not available. If you are talking about the stuff that isn't available in GA at all, then you won't find as much, if any, as you used to. A local competitor (that is now out of business in Athens) turned them in for that activity and they are trying to keep it clean until it's fully resolved. I always make a stop there when I'm in the area.

That one location did go away. However, there was already another location and another just opened extremely close to where I live. Four more are planned to make it to 6 stores in the state. I have never even set foot in 5 Points because I have never been to Athens (they are not too fond of my kind there ), so I shouldn't really have a dog in this hunt. However, this group has proven they are OK with going about things the wrong way, so I will never set foot in any of their stores by choice even though I have the opportunity.

 

I stumbled upon some Cantillon Kriek last year at the Atlanta highway store. Their Belgian selection is always really good. And yeah, it's unfortunate that they got snitched on. You could find some really cool stuff before it happened.

Winston Salem is cool, but stay outta Athens, man....

 

Athens ROCKS, so do the guys at 5pts bottle! They all know their stuff and the beers they have on the shelves will blow your mind! Make sure to go to the second best thing about Athens while your there, Aromas!

 

What were they doing that everyone was all up in arms about?

 

Snitches? Really? That sucks because 5 pts, the owner, and staff are awesome!
