I recently purchased (attempted anyways) a 6 pack of Flat 12's Half Cycle IPA from a close by shop. Before I walked out the door with it one of the managers I talk to a lot about new beers etc. told me I didn't want that and put it back for me. He then took me in the back to show me why. As soon as he popped the top the beer began gushing out with foam and never stopped. It literally didn't stop foaming the entire time I watched it. He explained that they sent a video to Flat 12 and they wouldn't return it. I purchased 2 other 6 packs (porter and pale ale) and they were fine. Any idea what this would be from and why would a brewery not make this right? Anybody seen this with their beers?

Me too. I had a problem in the Knoxville area with their Walkabout pale ale. It's normally awesome, but the sixers I got were pretty seriously over-carbonated. I tried to drink one and it foamed out of my mouth like I had an Alka-Seltzer in my mouth. Never emailed them, but still have a few bottles left over from the same batch in the back of my fridge I think.

Very strange, I would try contacting them if I was you. For me the walkabout was alright (pretty carbonated) but the half cycle would have been undrinkable.

Was it warm or cold when they popped it?

Had the same issue with a sixer of Walkabout. Returned it to the retailer and emailed Flat 12. Couple weeks later a handwritten card arrived in the mail apologizing for the quality issue and enclosing a $25 gift card MasterCard. Classy response.

Warm when they popped it. I'm assuming it was returned after someone opened it cold and found it undrinkable.

Unfortunately, I've had an issue with almost every 6 pack I've purchased of theirs.

Hello there! I am really sorry. We are currently working to find the "over-carb" issue and correct it.
If you have a moment and would not mind helping us out, then I would greatly appreciate any details you might have? (Purchase location, date, lot code, beer type.)

You can email me directly at [email protected] or if you are shy, you can use our webpage form at http://flat12.me/contact/ . With Gratitude, Sharon

I appreciate the people who are bringing this to light and Flat12 for making an effort to correct the issue. I will be in Indy in a couple of weeks and look forward to trying some of your brews. Hopefully the kinks are worked out.

I should add that I received a couple sixers from Flat12 not long after they opened and there were no issues with carbonation.

Flat 12 has always been extremely perceptive to quality control issues/concerns. For those in Indy, if you ever have a bad batch of any of their beers feel free to return them to either Kahns location and we'll notify the distributor and the brewery.

I had the same experience with a sixer of Walkabout several months ago; all six bottles were gushers. I contacted Flat 12 about it and they made it right in a classy way. Hopefully they get the issue resolved soon.

Very cool to see a brewery involved like that

I thought this was a common issue with Flat 12's IPA's. I had the same deal with Walkabout in January. I still drank it but the head on that beer was insane.

I've had the same response from the Fort Wayne rep, just return it to the store. That being said, it seems like the problem has been ongoing. Still good beer though!

I have had plenty of their beers and have not had any issues.

I had a walkabout 6 pack that was a gusher also. I thought it was very good, just over carbonated. I'm chalking it up to learning their system. As with any brewery the bumps will be there. I will be giving them a second chance.
