I'm fairly new to BA and have already learned about a lot of new (to me ) beers. I see certain ones mentioned over and over again, Heady, Pliny, Zombie, KBS and a handful of others. Are these this year's "flavor of the month" and if so, what are some of the beers of past years that were the "hot" ones at the time?

Pliny is actually known for being one of the pioneers of the modern day DIPA. And I can certainly say that Heady, Zombie Dust, and KBS are not "flavors of the month".... These beers will reign supreme for a long time coming.

The beers you listed, have, and will stand the test of time.
Past beers of the month are too numerous to list, but here's a few...

    Frangelic Mountain Brown
    Box of Chocolates
