I grew up in CT and get back every couple of months to visit my mother. It seems like CT has a lot going on beer wise, but seems under-represented here. I've been able to grab stuff by Back East, Two Roads, sampled Eli Cannon's anniversary brew and of course grab Sea Hag etc when I am there. I am psyched to try Stubborn Beauty next trip as it is very near the in-laws place... I just want to hear about more CT breweries I guess. Telll me. Thanks.

And I am not knocking NEBCO in the least. Sea Hag is easily my favorite IPA...

IMHO, Beer'd brewing is running second in the state for best brewery, the ones after that are not particularly close. Beer'd is way out of the way for most of CT and the rest of the breweries are just OK, which is why you only really hear about NEBCO.

I've quite liked Relic the couple times I've gotten up there, mostly because they're committed to doing some stranger, more adventurous things. That does mean not all of their beers work out, but I've enjoyed a good chunk of what I've tried from them and it's always distinctive stuff rather than just another attempt at a DIPA or something that can't live up to the best stuff like NEBCO's.

I'm a big fan of Relic in Plainville. Most recently the beers Dank B, Ryepocolypse and The Empress blew me away. The porter, oatmeal stout and schwarzbier are darn good too.

I really need to get out to Beer'd sometime soon, I've only heard great things about them.

Relic is one I have had my eye on, but have not been able to make it happen. The winter brew they did sounded like it would have been good...Back East Porter is very good. As is the Imperial Stout. I liked the 2 Roads Road to Ruin DIPA and the only example I had was 2 months old...a fresh one would probably be even better (?). I'll keep an eye out for Beer'd as well. Not every beer can be a massive IPA brewed in VT, there has to be more solid drinking beers in CT. Also, I miss the Whalers.

Relic is good; give them a few years and they will be real great. From what I have had some of their beers have been very good, some ok, and some bad (infected bottles from the liquor store mostly). Interesting beer styles and style lines blurred. The brewer you can tell truly enjoys brewing and trying new things. I'd say its worth almost an hour drive to get some growler fills and tastes....

Anyone know anything about Broad Brook? Thomas Hooker has been around forever still haven't made it there...

I've had nothing above average from Relic yet. Same with 2Roads.

Waiting to try Beer'd, Firefly and Stubborn Beauty

Been to Broad Book a few times as I live close enough. All there beers are drinkable but honestly nothing special coming out of there so far. They do have a nice tasting room.

Willimantic Brewing is a really solid brewpub with a stellar lineup of regional guest beers in addition to their solid house brews. Not worth driving hours for but Willibrew is a great stop if you're in the area!
