Interesting. I only had Pirate Bomb once and it was super fresh and thought aging would ruin it as it was super rum forward with coffee and peppers on the back end and was one of the best stouts I ever had. That just shows batch to batch variations.

Not to mention palate to palate variations

Not until this year. I finally stocked up. Had eight total and have five left. I've had it with more than two years on it, fresh, and inbetween. While I enjoy it aged, I wouldn't say I prefer it any one way.

This beer ages pretty gracefully, at least for the first couple years anyway. Gracefully enough that I think the other variables such as your palate, what food you ate that day, how many days since your last beer, or even if you already drank a beer that day will have a bigger impact on your enjoyment of the PB than the age of the beer itself.

I couldn't find it in my area, but picked it up out of state last week.

Picked up a 4-pack finally and am sorry to report that it is in my top 5 worst barrel-aged beers for sure, maybe top 3.

Forget the barrel aged specificity...this was one of the worst beers I've ever had period.

Sooo, did this never hit Massachusetts?

Just my $0.02, but I thought this beer had a strong tropical feel to it between the hops and the rum. I think if it was more in the NEIPA style, and aged in the rum barrels, it would be an awesome pain killer cocktail type beer (kind of like Pinthouse Pizza's attempt).

Very rum forward in the smell and taste. Probably my biggest disappointment from a Founders beer.

I liked nothing about this beer, if I wanted rum, I'd drink rum. Not many beers I don't wanna finish, but this was one.

I'd strongly caution you to pick up only one before trying it. I assure you it'll still be on shelves to go back for if you like it.

    Yeah, very polarizing beer, apparently.

Isn't that the point? That's what I love, it's rum forward I mean afterall it's Rum Barrel IPA. If you despise rum why did you buy this? This beer is perfect.

I had a sample pour of this a few days ago. It was all I could do to finish the 3 ounces.

I wasn't expecting it to be all rum. It gave me the "just took a shot face" Not saying it is a bad beer, people like different things.

Because it was supposed to be a beer but literally taste solely like cheap rum.

Brb paying $6 for a 12oz beer that taste like a $9 750ml bottle of bottom shelf rum.

Didn't taste like cheap rum. Tasted like Appleton that is about $20 a fifth. Sure not a $50 bottle but cheap is $10-15 and it tasted like $20 rum.

I like this “beer”, though the smell is a bit weird.
