Thanks for that. Hadn't paid any attention since I never saw Fruitwood around here.

There is no indication that it won't be their most limited release of the series. The problem becomes when you push out mediocre barrel aged beers in a series in astronomical quantities to hype CBS but don't increase the maple program to meet the demand. Oh, and 750 -- just screams intentional.

    That's even worse then.

Well, as far as I'm concerned it's no big deal one way or the other. CBS has always been released in limitied quantities and I probably wouldn't buy it even if I found it in 12oz bottles.

I think @BeerPugz might be forgetting that this is their 20th anniversary. They are definitely attempting to make this whole year a bang by their anniversary coinciding with more KBs events, larger quantities of KBS, interesting new additions to their BA series, and increasing production of Backwoods Bastard.

They are also bringing CBS out for national Distro to top it all off. Do you really think it will be so limited that some places will be splitting cases like it was back in 2011 (by that I mean that there were reports of stores getting less than a full case)? That would really put a damper on what would have otherwise been a phenomenal year for Founders. That would seem like a really sickly stupid plan given that they are doing a full national release this go around.

This is obviously a conspiracy by Founders for them to drive up the secondary market for their beer.

This is one of those times I will drop a little more for a bottle. Never had this and its on my list to try, so with luck AZ will get a handful, cheers.

Yeah...it's a communist plot. BTW: I thought DKML and (as always) Backwoods Bastard are great!

Hard to call it overpriced when it 's likely to sell out everywhere on the day it gets released. The MSRP of $25 seems pretty reasonable.

I envisioned your picture as your response right after reading this. lol
Especially when those Westbrook/Evil Twin BA collabs are goin for like $50. And even Maple Biscotti was $35 when I got it in Chicago.

Yes, I do think many places will only see several cases. Just because it's a 20th anniversary doeasn't mean they will be releasing KBS like numbers. I would be surprised if Founders released 1/16 the amount of KBS. 2017 Utopias sees national distro too and there's only 13,000 bottles. What is your point about national distro?

I think many people will be disappointed (in taste) and say " Shoulda had a Pugachev Cobra".

Well, it was obviously intentional, since odds are small that it was bottled that way on accident.
... but I get what you're saying and I will add my cynical 2 cents in that it's eye-rolling that they aren't releasing this as a 4 pack given their previous trends. KBS cost more per once in a 750 than a 4 pack even though it was the same damn beer. Skip to this thread and Founders releases their most sought after beer only in the 750 format. They know what they are doing (obviously). Beer geeks are very willing to meet them at whatever road they take here. We've become anesthetized.

Well, several cases would be 6 fold more than stores received when it had only limited distro back in 2011. So, that's already a huge increase.

Also, awhile back in one of the other threads where CBS was discussed, someone reported that in NY their distributor indicated that they are getting about 1/3 the level of CBS as they got KBS this year. Given that KBS was everywhere this year, that's a metric fuck ton of CBS (by comparison to 2011 and what some people might be expecting).

That is a lot. Still doubtful. If that were the case, why 750?

I think there’s gonna be a lot of this and it’s gonna hit exactly on December 1st everywhere. I’ve seen at least 2 places in the Midwest that have already announced tappings ON The 1st and we’ve still got a month to go. Seems they’re gonna go the Bourbon County and Psychedelic Cat Grass route with this release. And there should be at least as much CBS as there was Frootwood at the beginning of the year and that one was everywhere. Plus I’ve heard from Founders employees that they’d never release it in bottles again because of the clusterf**k it caused, but here we are.

I think Founders stouts are over hyped. The only beer session I have vomited from in decades was from KBS. Albeit I had like a six pack. Still, having a waiting list for one bottle of beer is absurd and expensive. Dogfish Head world wide vanilla stout is amazing.

Looks like I will have to peel away a few dollars from the Dark Horse 4-Elf party to get this.

I'm assuming the price of maple barrels is higher than that of bourbon barrels so to balance the cost of making the beer they probably have to sell at a higher price. They already sell the 750s at almost double the cost of the 4 packs of similar beers in the barrel aged series. And Founders is still in the profit business to they'll make the most money on this beer selling it in 750s.
