I recently had a six hour layover in Frankfurt. Having never been to Germany, I was pretty bummed to learn that there isn’t too much in the area to do beerwise, other than the Paulaner beer garden at the airport (which wasn’t open for much of my layover tthat began at 5-something AM). While I had few expectations, I ended up being very pleased with Hausmann’s, which is in one of the terminals near the Lufthansa senators lounge. They didn’t have anything crazy good, and only a couple of drafts, but a good bottle list with descriptions and matching glass wear for a lot of the choices. The food - I had the pork shank - was solid. It seems like a lot of people post questions about what places to go - either at the airport or in the city. Hausmann’s isn’t going to blow your mind, but it at least gives you a wide range of choices and styles for an airport bar.
I feel for you, and good to know. I've spent some time in the Frankfurt flughafen and it hasn't been pleasant. I even drank a Beck's Green Lemon out of boredom - ughh, not a very good beer! I've never had to be there for more than a couple of hours though. So, good info., I'll probably be back next year and have to go through there again so I'll check it out.
I've been to the Hausmann's in the Düsseldorf Altstadt and I'd say it's much like you describe -- nothing earth-shattering but some interesting (if pricey) beers.
Funny, I "found" that Hausman's as well a couple weeks ago. Had a nice lunch and a beer. They actually had quite a beer selection imo.
