    Where is BeerAdvocate located?
    Boston (@Jason) and Denver (@Todd), and beyond. We don't have a main physical office. All employees work from home.

    How many employees do you have?
    10 paid employees. https://www.beeradvocate.com/about/

    But we also dozens of freelance magazine contributors, as well as volunteer moderators, site editors and fest crew.

    Are you hiring?
    Not at this time.

    Where do I send beer samples?
    See our Contact page.

    How do I claim our page?
    We currently don't offer the ability to claim a page in order to edit content and view statistics, but we're working on it.

    Do you have an app?
    No, but our website is responsive.

    Can I use your ratings?
    Yes, so long as credit is given to the source; BeerAdvocate.

    Do you have shelf talkers?
    Yes. Most beer page will have a button to print a shelf talker in the sidebar. Currently we only offer the ability to print one at a time.

    Do you have a public application programming interface (API)?
    Not at this time, but it's something we're exploring.

    Can I get your data for my project?
    No. We don't provide or sell our data.

    Why don't you have social share/follow buttons on your pages for Twitter, Facebook, et?
    1. They're typically ugly and always distract from the content.
    2. The average ratio of shares to views on any given page is so insignificant that it's not worth embedding them. And people will share content via links regardless of the buttons.
    3. By embedding share/follow buttons, services get invaluable data about your site's traffic and users.
    Can I disable those floating notices?
    You can dismiss individual notices as they appear, but you can't disable them or opt-out.

    Your Account

    Where can I update my account information and preferences?
    Hover over your username located in the upper right navigation. You'll see options there.

    Why is the site saying that my email isn't valid?
    If your email host rejects emails from us (for any reason), our system disables your account to avoid further issues. The only way to resolve this is to update your account with another valid email address. There is no way around this.

    Common cause: Flagging emails from us as spam, when you should've adjusted your Contact Details under Your Account.

    Why can't I log in?
    Ensure that your username/email and password (case-sensitive) are correctly entered, or try asking for a password reminder from the log in page.

    Can I change my username?
    Only Supporters are allowed to change their username. Doing so won't impact your contributions.

    Why aren't my stats updating?
    Some user stats are updated hourly or daily based on stat and the last time you were active.

    How do I post a new thread in the forums?
    • Get familiar with our various forums: https://www.beeradvocate.com/community/
    • Search for similar posts. If any exist, reply to them vs starting a new thread.
    • Otherwise, click on the forum you feel best fits your post.
    • Click the "Post New Thread" button.
    • Ensure that your thread title and message is clear. This will make it easier for others to find, understand, and encourage more participation.
    How do I reply to a thread?
    • Click the reply link within the specific post that you'd like to reply to. This will auto-quote the post that you're replying to. If you just want to reply to the thread in general, clear the quoted content.
    • You many also quote multiple posts by using the +Quote feature, followed by the Insert Quotes feature.
    • If you're replying simply because you agree with another user's post, use the Like feature instead.
    Why can't I post?
    • Your posting privileges may have been temporarily suspended and will return after a period of time. Reasons: invalid email or breaking our terms.
    • You might be trying to post in a forum that doesn't allow it.
    How do I post an image in the forum?
    We're not the image hosting business, so you'll need to use a service to store your images.
    • Sign up for an image storage service. Many social media sites will work too. The most important factor here is selecting a service that allows you to embed images for viewing by others.
    • Ensure that the image is shared publicly (a must) and copy the direct link to the image.
    • Use the "Image" button in the posting toolbar, paste the link, and submit.
    • Provided all of the above is correct, your image will now be embedded when you submit your post.
    On your mobile device / having issues? You can wrap the link using the IMG tag.

    How do I post a video in the forum?
    It's similar to embedding an image, but you'll need to select the "Media" button in the posting toolbar and only certain video hosting services are supported.

    How do I edit or delete my post?
    You have a 15 minute window to edit your post, its title if your the original poster (OP), or delete it if you made a mistake. After this the links to edit will disappear. Use the Report link if you require further assistance.

    Why are some links *blocked* in posts?
    For various reasons, we've decided to not allow links to certain websites. Meaning links will be blocked. Attempts to work around this will result in warnings/bans.

    Why was my post moderated?
    In most cases you should receive an Alert (or Warning via a Conversation) with the reason. Otherwise refer to our Terms of Service and Code of Conduct.

    How do I add a beer?

    Why can't I rate certain beers?
    The ability to rate is disabled for breweries that are marked as closed.

    Why is <insert beer name> listed as retired?
    There are many reasons why a beer gets retired.
    • Beers that are tagged (entered) as "Limited (brewed once)" will automatically be retired by the system after one year from when they were entered.
    • Brewers discontinue beers.
    • Breweries close.
    • A mistake was made. (Use the "Report an Update" link.)
    If the brewery is still open, a retired beer will remain ratable, however, it's no longer considered for Top Beer lists or the like.

    How do I upload an image?
    The functionality is dated, and the requirements are very specific. We're working on making the entire process much easier. In the meantime, on the upload page you'll notice that images must be an exact width and height with a max file size that's quite small. We recommend using an online resource like: http://webresizer.com/resizer/ to quickly crop, resize and compress your image.

    Locate the "Report an Update" button in the sidebar (you must be logged in). Clicking it will take you to a form. Please complete the form and provide as much information as possible before submitting.

    Currently we have very limited resources and time. On top of this our maintenance tools for beers and places are dated and cumbersome. We're working on fixing this to ensure updates are handled in a timely fashion.

    Why have my trading privileges have been pulled?
    You've failed to follow our rules and your access has been revoked. This may occur temporarily or permanently depending on the warning and your warning history (see your profile page). Don't contact us. Take your lumps and move on.

    How do I leave the trading area?
    There's a button on the main Trading and Your Trading pages sidebar (Beer Trading Stats block) that'll allow you to leave. You can always join again.

    How do I add a place?

    Once you've ensured that the place doesn't already exist, select Places > Add a Place and complete the form.

    Why can't I rate certain places?
    Ratings are disabled for places that are breweries only. We allow their beers to do the talking instead. But you can use the report feature if the place is more than just a brewery.

    Events

    How do I add an event?

    Once you've ensured that the event doesn't already exist, select Events > Add Event and complete the form. Please note that you'll need to be logged in and your account verified.

    How do I edit an event that I submitted?
    Go to the event's page. Click the "Edit Event" link; not available for past events.

    How do I remove or report an update for event?
    Use the Report link and provide a reason.
