It just keeps happening. I've only been trading beer for a month, but I keep getting super excited when I see these FT lists that have a BUNCH of beers I want - EXACTLY what (I think) I've been looking for! But then I see the damn ISO: it's either something I've never heard of, or have no chance to get. Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining, just find it funny how often it happens (several times a day, usually).

Fact is, it makes it all the more fulfilling when you do find that awesome trading partner, and it all comes together!

Go to a festival and buy 12 brewery only releases. Trade away 11 of said releases for whatever you want.

Funny you should post this. This month I recently did my first trades and quickly I'm about to do my 5th. I got in line with some great traders that have opened my eyes to a whole new world. I'll be staying in the trade game, not to the tune of 5 times a month but a new world has definitely opened up thanks to some great and generous BA's.

That's awesome! I have been very fortunate - I've made 10 trades and have been happy with every one so far. I haven't loved every new beer I've tried (and I have many more still to go), but I've been lucky to meet and trade with some really cool folks here on BA. And I've learned as much about beer in the last month as I did over the last few years!

In the ISO: FT: forum I only look at the ISO:'s for this exact reason.

Btw, I did my 1st trade towards the end on last Nov; It can be very addicting

If you want whales it seems, find something local that everybody who isn't local, wants. For me it's NG. Easy to get at the corner store but not distributed outside WI. Every state has these I'm sure. So now I have guys messaging me whilst standing in a brewery asking me which growler I want @Keiferfillinger  I REALLY appreciate the opportunity, and love sharing my easy get stuff for other's easy get stuff. It is indeed addicting.

I've been noticing this too. As i looked through all the iso:ft forums I would get pretty discouraged but after finishing my second trade and working on my third, I realized that i need to build my way up to the whales that i want to try. So for now im just trading for anything out of my distro and building up my cellar.

Do whatever makes you happy I guess, but whats the point of trading for 'anything out of your distro'? Shouldnt you be trading for beers you are interested in drinking?

@HotCarlSunday well what I meant that as a newbie to the beer game I'm happy just trying the many brews that, without trading, wouldnt be possible. there are beers that im interested more than others (i have some whales in mind) but I dont feel like i should start with big trades till I get the feel of this trading biz... dont know if thats odd, but thats how I see things

Every state absolutely does not have something like this. There are a select few, Vermont, California, and the midwest have the vast majority. Besides that, there's something here or there but a lot fewer overall than you'd think.

How very, very, sadly true. For example, Iowa only has Toppling Goliath & has only had TG since 2009. While Toppling Goliath might seem like a pretty big 'got', TG beers, especially those in high demand, can be hell for most Iowans to get, too.
