Has any ticketing system ever worked flawlessly for high-demand events?

Ticketmaster though does have the worst fees.

I remember when the tickets were sold from local liquor stores and Old Chicago. *sigh* the memories...

Yup - I miss those days. I used to buy 'em at face value from Davidson's the day of the event. I wish they still got allocations of some sort.

I think that they will stay with Ticketmaster (from talking with people that work there). Using Ticketmaster they do not have to handle the logistics and with the old system if someone "lost" a ticket they would issue a new one and have no way to track deactivate the old ones. This allows them to now issue replacement tickets. I think that the fees on Ticketmaster suck, but if there is an issue at least it is easier to resolve.

As someone who's never been able to go to GABF, is the members only session Sat the better option as opposed to the regular session? Anyone manned up (or idioted up) and done both?

I've only been going to the members only session, been about 16 years now. I went on a Friday once about 5 or 6 years ago, hated it. But, I'm seriously considering doing Thursday night this year and skipping members only. There's so many events around town, I feel like the weekend sessions get in the way.

Being all nostalgic; who remembers when it was at the Currigan Exhibit Hall?

I'd love to go to the Thursday session, but that whole work thing is cramping my style. That is a crazy week as a whole.

At those prices I wonder if they'll still sell out in less than 40 minutes. We'll see.

My inkling is yes, and faster than 40 min.

I've done both Thur and members each of the past three years. I find Thur is as good (sometimes better) than members. You often get more access to brewers and beers before they run out. Both are great though.

I've gone 3 times since I've lived in Denver (12/08) and the first two times I went to a members only session. Unless it's changed...everyone was out of everything by Saturday afternoon. So last year I decided to go on Thursday's opening session and it was by far the best session I've been to.
