I'd like to know the best beer bar in Salzburg.
The Augustiner monastery in Mülln is one of the best places in the world to drink a beer. They only have the one, Märzen, but it's wonderful.
Don't expect to find a bar with dozens of different beers. That's not how things work in Austria. Sternbräu has a bout the biggest range, but it's still no more than about a dozen in total.
I agree. The monastery is great. Awesome outdoor beer gardens. Wash and pour your own mugs. Wish I had more when we were there .
A third vote for Augustiner. It's a can't miss in Salzburg. I'd also recommend going to Stiegl's pub/restaurant that is located on the walk up to the fortress. There is a great terrace that looks out over the old town square. Maybe not the best beer around, but absolutely worth it for the view/atmosphere. The building itself is very cool too.
Run, don't walk, to Augustiner. Enjoy the variety of butchers and bakers that sell snacks in the beer hall; pay for a ticket and then grab your liter ceramic mug, rinse it yourself at the old stone sink, and hand it over to be filled with Maerzen from the wooden keg. Then walk back to a shady spot under the chestnut trees, sit down, and settle in for the long haul. Any thoughts of U.S. beer bars with their 100s of taps should now be 1000s of miles away.
p.s. Not me in the video, just pulled it from the internets.
Let me add my vote & praise for Augustiner. It is one of the best places in the world to grab a beer. Also, take some time and walk around the various rooms. Hope it is nice enough for you to sit out in the beer garten!
How much is a round trip ticket to Austria? After watching the little video above, I have a strong urge to go!
Much less than a membership in the Bruery's Horders Society at $2,000 (http://beeradvocate.com/community/threads/bruery-hoarders-society.35349/)
