That's more like it! (Although I still would've been interested in your opinion of individual breweries)

The owner got injured for a time and couldn't brew, during that time the place closed and the equipment disappeared.

Glasstown is a great spot. Definitely one of the more underrated breweries in the state.

Sorry to bring back an old thread... Making a list of local NJ beers to try this weekend at AC Beerfest . I saw that Glasstown will be pouring Danky Kong. I thought I read some positive reviews on here before about it. Didnt see any officials reviews when I searched. Anyone have it?

    Thanks!

Danky Kong is really really solid. I remember reading on here that it's as good as the absolute best IPAs in the world (specifically I remember mention of Tree House) and it's obviously not on that level, but it is quite good. The best non-Carton and Kane NJ hoppy beer I've had, probably. I visited during the first DK bottle release and tried the draft as well - didn't try any of their other beers so can't speak to those. But Danky Kong is definitely worth checking out, especially since their line shouldn't be too long.

Wow! Dankey Kong was really good. My favorite beer that I tried.

Sorry. But if you characterize Kane and Carton as "far from great" I have a hard time taking your opinion seriously.

I was at AC Beer Fest and we visited Glasstown Brewing's booth twice.

The Coconut Porter was pretty good and exceeded my expectations. The Dankey Kong was a real winner though. I'm planning to go visit them. It's quite the trek for me especially since it's in the "middle of nowhere", but I have plans to stay a weekend at Stone Harbor in May so will be stopping before and after to visit them.

I wouldn't see it's on Treehouse/Trillium level, but for a lot of the IPA's I've had in New Jersey, it's definitely a great one.

Agreed, I sought them out early to make sure I tried Dankey Kong before my palete was destroyed by too many beers. You're Coconuts exceeded my expectations as well.

I didn't try the Coconut Porter. How would u say it compares to Death by Coconut from
Oskar Blues? If u had that in the past.

I honestly would say that the Coconut Porter is comparable. I wouldn't be able to say which one is better right off the top of my head but I do know that Death by Coconut was a lot more coconut forward where You're Coconuts was a bit more subtle and the chocolate was more forward.

The fact that my girlfriend would go nowhere near Death By Coconut and actually enjoyed You're Coconuts is quite the sign too. She hates coconut forward beers, but this one she did enjoy.

That's fine, and you're certainly entitled to your opinion, and whether you take mine 'seriously' or not is your choice. We all have opinions here :grinning:
I have nothing against Kane (or Carton, for that matter)...they are making some fairly good brews that are probably a notch or two above other small operations in the state, and I think that what's is great that they're doing well and seem to have a very loyal following.

You're Coconuts won #1 for favorite Porter/Stout at AC Beer Fest. I feel like it's well deserved although I personally love Ship Bottom's Barnacle Bottom Stout a lot as well.

Not trying to start an argument, just a discussion! What exemplifies a great American brewery to you?

I was wondering the same thing. I'm wondering what's great if Kane and Carton are "fairly good."

Glasstown's beers are solid. Smith & Wood Foundry Ale might be my favorite. Want to try Big Breakfast and Danky Kong.

Dankey Kong. Worth it. I'm so glad we got to try this brewery at AC Beer Fest. Definitely on the radar for me now.

I'm definitely alittle biased as Glasstown is my local brewery, but I think they definitely stand up to most spots, especially in NJ. Danky Kong isn't 100% heady, treehouse, trillium, bissell level, but it's pretty close, and saves me about a 5-7 hour drive. Everything else has been spot on too they released a barleywine for their 2 yr anniversary and it was fantastic. Safe to say I haven't had anything bad from them. If your big into Belgians, wheats, or sours id say don't worry about making the drive, they definitely don't do sours and they normally only have one Belgian, but it's pretty good.

Is Dankey Kong brewed just once a year?
