Living in Wisconsin I am very excited as golf season has now rolled up on us. Love, actually, really love to have a couple of beers on the course and prefer cans. Once in awhile will sneak a bomber or some bottles out, especially if it is a cart round.

Here are my early season front runners for most frequent beers in my bag:

    1) Dogfish 60 Minute - love this beer, pumped for cans, put in freezer for a bit so stays cold even on back nine.

    2) Epic Son of a Baptist (my local coffee variant is Valentine coffee) - perfect for the early rounds.

    3) New Glarus Moon Man - very tasty local brew. Possibly my if stuck on a desert island beer due to it's versatility.

    4) Bells Two Hearted - when I don't need to take care of the kids post round.

    5) Pipeworks Lizard King - would drink anywhere / anytime when I can get my hands on it. (Note -Replace with Ninja vs. Unicorn when I don't need to take care of the kids post round).

    Honorable mentions
    • All Day IPA - 15 beers for $15
    • Leinie's Summer Shandy - yah I know, your aunt's favorite beer. Common public course offering
    • TenFidy - Fall rounds
    • Sierra Nevada Pale Ale - Budweiser for Hippies
    • Local Milwaukee brews coming out of woodwork in cans, super fresh IPAs. Good City, City Lights, Third Space,
Anyone else excited? Any other favorite golf beers??

Note - I am sure this has been a thread before so I am likely rehashing a topic so no need to bash me or get all harsh. Just amped up and looking to share energy.

Soon to be Exile beatnik sour, they'll be canning it this summer. It's a very one noted berliner, but it's super refreshing and tart.

All beer is golf beer... except Dogfish Head 120 Minute.

Too many of those and I have trouble at the hole with the windmill where the blades can stop the ball.

I am super pumped to get out there. My go to now is going to be castle island mo pils. For a treat, Trillium fort point, or really anything from them is great. Notch left of the dial is another favorite of mine. Last year a buddy surprised my foursome with Maine Beer's Lunch which was great to sip in a golf cart.

I can't answer exactly what he meant, but it's kind of amusing. I've heard that used to describe craft beer drinkers in general. There's a kernel of truth to it.

I typically go with lighter beers, 18 holes is a long haul and out in the desert its brutal in summer months. So for me anything ice cold and lower ABV.

Post round is when I can indulge in the good stuff but a session beer like Grain Belt Nordeast, Liftbridge Farmgirl (or even a Stiegl Radler if its really hot out) is best for my game and anyone golfing on holes to my right since my slight draw turns into a big banana slice after too many.

Surly Furious or Summit Saga (New Glarus Spotted Cow if I am playing in WI) in the clubhouse afterwards and I am a happy guy.

They started selling Summerfest from the booze cart at my favorite course last year. That made me happy. I blame that for the fact that I can't sink an eight foot putt to save my life.

I don't golf much because I don't swear well enough, but when I do I tend to drink ice cold macro. Haven't seen much craft at courses around here, and I'm better prepared to drive if I'm not drinking imperial grade.

    Wait till AFTER the game.

Otherwise you might end up too drunk to fish.

Too Drunk To Fish is the name of a local band here. LMAO at that name. Could be too drunk to golf, since you might be ejected from the course. But I've seen some pretty wasted folks golfing.

SNPA nearly dates back to real hippiedom, thus a nostalgic nod to the original Chico hop cones.....just a guess, but it kinda makes sense to me.

I haven't been golfing in like 10 years but if I were to go again I'd probably choose something hoppy & refreshing in a can, such as:

    • Carton Boat
    • Half Acre Daisy Cutter
    • FW Pivo Pils
    • Jack's Abby House Lager
    • Jack's Abby Sunny Ridge (pilsner)
    • Victory Prima Pils

Yah to clarify - back in my freshman year in college in 1996 I was enjoying a SNPA I brought to a keg party and a meathead called me out for drinking "Budweiser for hippies" . I think I remember less than a dozen things from that year in total and that was one of them. I still love that beer. The saying makes sense but I can not explain.

I like to start the round with a Heady Topper after about 3 holes. Then I stick with something light for the rest of the round.
