I am kind of new to craft beer and am looking to try a variety of styles. I have not found very many saisons around. Can someone reccomend a widely available saison that is fairly representative of its style.

For reference I live in central California.

    Cheers!

Saison Dupont is probably the quintessential Saison and should not be hard to find. Good place to start.

I haven't had too many Saisons but I did recently have Saison Dupont, The Bruery Saison de Lente, and the Lost Abbey Carnevale and they were all great. You shouldn't have a hard time finding them either.

Hennepin, GI Sofie, GI Pepe Nero, Smuttynose Farmhouse Ale, and Ithaca Ground Break are a few of my favorites.

I would consider that one to be the best example of the style, love that beer!

Yes if almost every green bottle of DuPont saison wasn't skunked . It's a gamble.

Definitely Fantome. It can be a bit of a risk because there is so much bottle variation, but when they are good, they are some of the best. The original is a good place to start. They are pretty widely available around here, so I imagine you can grab them somewhere in California.

Dupont puts their regular saison and the Foret in small brown bottles now. Try those.

Victory Helios is a good, widely available saison. It's cheap too.

Victory Helios for under $5/bomber. All of the other suggestions are top notch saisons, and many of them may be rated a bit higher than helios on here, but it's very good and the value can't be beat IMO.

Agreed. First and only bottle I bought was skunked. I'll stick with lesser American iterations for now if it means avoiding skunked saisons. Hennepin, GI Sofie, New Holland Golden Cap, Lost Abbey stuff are all pretty good.
