I paid that last year. Feels bad man. I was fully prepared to spend that on the barleywine, but I think the sales were pretty bad last year so they had to lower the price point of the “high end” offerings this year. Seems to have worked out well for them.

I was actually wondering the same.
Someone has to have one. I’d love to put one together but with a 3 year old and 6 month old taking up most of my time, I probably won’t have it ready until next years release.

No idea why my post is in a nested quote and I can't fix it. Just clarifying that 2020 Wheatwine was the Caramella variant and 2021 didn't have Wheatwine unless I'm forgetting some super limited small count bottle release.

My brother bought WILT 4 Packs in Las Vegas, Nevada. Three of them. :sunglasses:

I found the "GI" which I'm assuming is the blended version yesterday and will go back today to grab it. I may buy HH and WT depending on how the WILT goes. I liked the blended 2020 much better than the Easter Eggs

Hoping to have the same take. I'm going to perform a side by side once I get the blended 12 oz four pack.

I've thus far had Willett and Wild Turkey. Wild Turkey had something missing to me in 2020, too, and this year is the same where I imagine the other components of the blended adds a lot of complexity to the beer. The Willett on the other hand was amazing. I'm not going to hunt for the other two, but hope to stumble into BT. It was my favorite of the 3 in 2020 and I think the Willett I had last night would certainly give it a run for the money.

For anyone that is a bourbonite, you're hitting on the difference between a store pick vs. the "normal" offering. Sometimes their prime, and sometimes they are bust. Years ago when store picks weren't as common, and only stores that were deeply rooted in the business had store picks, the picks were seemingly always high quality. Someone from that store would travel to the rickhouse, sample through barrels, and pick one that was 'the best'. Now adays, especially with big stores like Binny's and Kroger and so on not only doing store picks, but getting sometimes several barrels at a time of the same offering (and especially since COVID), they may not even taste through them. They may just have one (or more) picked. So, it's a real gamble.

Most whiskey is batched (i.e. blended). Even (especially?) the highly lauded bottles are blended together. Where the "single barrel" type thing really shines in beer is just like in whiskey. Once the beer has been BA'd, you have to sample through barrels to find one (or more) that are unique (and if more than 1, can be blended together as the same type of barrel) that exudes those highly prized characteristics that wouldn't shine in the 'normal blend'.

TL;DR: I'm not surprised that the single distillery bottles aren't everyone's favorite. Blending is often superior.

I know that the drop was plentiful this year in Chicagoland, but it's wonderful to see everyone chiming in on where they found/are still seeing the lineup. Gotta love the camaraderie. More helpful posts than I remember at any point since I started on BA.

Looking at the list of past variants and reports of where this year's is still available brought up random questions in my mind.

Did Walgreens get any this year? If not, when was the last time? Which year was the infamous "sell it all at midnight" fiasco?
