This place had some buzz this past summer. They showed up at a couple of different beerfests and received some high marks. They announced in May that they found a retail spot in Westfield, MA but since then their social media has been a ghost town. The last post was in June and there is a vague comment in early September that says they are hoping to open in December.

Has anybody heard anything? Has anyone seen the space?

Usually breweries in the building process are posting updates once a week.

From their Facebook page last week...
"We think we'll be opening in March 2020."
Bummer. I was really hoping to check them out next month. I guess it is better than the thing falling through all together.

Does anybody have an update on this place?

After initially saying December, they pushed the opening to "hopefully March." March is a week away and they haven't posted anything since December 31st when they said "Spring." So, I am thinking March isn't happening unless they are keeping things totally under wraps.

    Does anybody know the guys?
Do any locals have some inside information?

I'm not hyper local to Westfield, but I'm in the area often for work, and have been keeping an eye out since sampling their beers at Worthy this past summer. Still haven't heard anything. I'll start asking around to some people I know who are a bit deeper in the beer scene in that area.

They replied to a Facebook comment yesterday and essentially said...

We are targeting a Spring opening and doing everything we can to open as soon as possible. We will update social media when we get closer.

I guess the March opening is officially out of the picture. I really hope they open in April. It just seems crazy to me that they were originally targeting December. They really must have run up against something.

Seems to be getting closer. I'm in the area regularly and often see lights on and work being done. Tanks are kind of visible from the road. Also, a great looking sign went up on the mill yesterday. Having had many of their beers, they are definitely worth getting excited for.

With Skyline and Kismet both opening in the past few months and each within a mile of this location, the area is getting busy. I hope there's room for all of them. And if you haven't had Kismet yet and are into fruited kettle sours, theirs are definitely worth seeking out.

Thanks for the update but something tells me they aren't opening anytime soon. Hopefully they can survive being closed for the foreseeable future.

Ha ha, I guess this whole social distancing thing will get in the way. Beyond the uncertainty of the time we're in right now, I think it's reasonable to think they will be selling beer by June. Keeping my fingers crossed.

I guess if they were ready to open with restrictions still in place, they could do what Kismet is doing and just offer cans to go only (although that was their plan from the start). It could help bring in some revenue if they were desperate.

Well, at the very least they are well positioned with their brewery name....

Haha. I didn't even think of that. Perfect!
Maybe once this blows over they could offer a free pint with proof of a positive Covid test and hospital discharge papers.

I keep going back and forth on whether it would be a good idea for a new brewery (not necessarily this one but it does apply) to open for the first time with cans to go only.
I heard Great Awakening plans to have cans from the start so it is theoretically possible but does that look bad compared to a real taproom grand opening? Could it actually hurt the business in the long run?
What do you think? If you are a brewery ready to open today, do you do it?

I don't think it's that odd. Vanished Valley did it when they started and have a taproom now. Kismet is can-only but plan to open the taproom, and ditto for Drowned Lands in NY.

Grimm and Lawson's Finest are a few popular breweries that started off with retail options only with a high level of success.

(I initially put The Alchemist, but technically they had the brewpub prior to being cans only)

That logo is ...... not great. The DIPA sounds good though.

    Really? I like it.
Great Awakening. The eye is open and then the pupil and iris make a G and A.
Though I am sure you didn't need it explained.
