Someone who has had both - please compare to Lake Erie Monster.
Anybody spot this in Columbus yet?
I just had this today and holy shit!!! This stuff is soo legit. Great Lakes definitely hit a homerun with this one! It's definitely an elite DIPA..
I picked up a 4pk yesterday at my local Giant Eagle. I had one and thought the Hopslam light comparison seemed pretty accurate. I enjoyed it but was in no way blown away by it. Another solid, if not safe, beer from GLBC.
Weiland's just tweeted they had it
Any LEM is close to a year old so probably not going to be a great comparison.
Can't wait til this makes it to Michigan, would be great to try something close to Hopslam since my stock is all gone now.
14 + tax for a 4 banger here in Chi. Shits gettin' pricey, boyz!!
I'm going to go out on a limb here and assume he was asking for a comparison from memory.
Missed the 'had' part. Read it as 'has both'
Just picked it up for $12.50 in Evanston.
Tried this last night and it was the first beer to blow me away in a while. Probably the most exciting try for me since Sculpin came to Ohio. It was a little sweeter than I would like, but it seemed like an intense hop sweetness filled with pineapple, mango, and all those exotic flavors making their way into IPAs nowadays. Mosaic is definitely a hop I am interested in exploring as a homebrewer, if I can get my hands on some.
We just got it in on draft and bottles at work, had a draft today, good overall, great smelling, good flavor, but an odd bitterness at the end.
If you happen to see draft kegs around or are up in Cleveland in the near future, Fat Heads has a beer out right now called IBUsive which uses a nice kick of Mosaic as a late addition. It's a Pale or IPA so not quite comparable to a DIPA like Alchemy Hour, but it's another solid display of Mosaic.
I'll have to keep my eyes peeled for that if I am out and about.
IBUsive is a west coast style IPA. It crushes Alchemy Hour side-by-side, it's shocking how much more flavor range it has than Alchemy.
I agree it's better, but some Fat Heads' beer is so freaking dry it feels like they are scraping the skin off my tongue... IBUsive is one of them. Minor complaint.
FYI Binny's in Schaumburg just got the Great Lakes DIPA. From best by date I am thinking about 12/14 days old. 12.99 a four pack.
Anyone see this in Madison,WI yet?
I need to get out more, haven't seen either around... then again, I'm out in the sticks.
Just got some at the Binny's in Orland Park, IL.
Got a 4-pack at Binny's LP yesterday, still had a few cases on the floor. I agree with the Hopslam Lite references, it's quite good!
I've gone through two growlers of Fat Heads IBUsive, it's just an incredible beer. While both Alchemy Hour and IBUsive showcase the Mosaic, I give the edge here to Fat Heads.
That said, both beers are trying to do different things, and the Alchemy Hour is one of the smoothest drinking DIPAs I've ever had.
how much are Ohioans paying for this? 9.99?
That's what I paid (live outside Cleveland)
Most places I've seen around Cleveland have it at $10.99/4pk. Save-On Tobacco & Beverage in Mentor had 4pks for $9.99 and 64oz growler fills for $9.99, so that's as good as it's gonna get around here..
I appreciate it gents. Just grabbed some for 9.99 at Bev Source in Newark. They had a bunch.
I think I'd agree there, though I'd like to pit them side by side. My initial comment that others have been referencing is mostly aimed at the fact that Alchemy Hour is a much bigger beer alcohol-wise and I'm guessing in IBU's, too - not that that matters when compared to the blistering dryness of Fat Heads! ;-)
Also, the IBUsive has Simcoe or something in there too which might be making the aroma more appealing to some vs the AH.
I think that description perfectly encapsulates IBUsive!
Got to love Save On, Wally said he was getting it in for growler fills. A whole lot better and not as fake as the other beer store down the road that aims so screw their customers.
I've seen several comparisons with Hopslam. Maybe it's Hopslam fatigue, but I thought Alchemy Hour blew away Hopslam this year. Aroma, taste, everything. I wish it were 9.99 or 10.99 around these parts but even at 12.99 I'd still recommend it over Hopslam this year.
Grabbed a 4 pack in the loop today in Chi. $14.99 plus the gorilla math tax here put me near 17 bucks. hope it is worth it.
Tried my first Alchemy last night. Very enjoyable. Honey, light citrus and some spicy/piney flavors. Resin. A little thin...which I don't mind. Bitterness profile was an A+...perfect. Need to drink more this weekend to see if its in my top 10 DIPAs. Either way, great its solid.
Had a bottle of this last night. Thought it was a good solid beer but not worth the price tag.
I paid $9.99 here in Columbus earlier today for a 4-pack. I'll be drinking some tomorrow night so I hope it's good!
9.99 in cincy...
I feel like there is no way they can charge more than 9.99 here in Ohio with Head Hunter selling for that same price/4pk and Rajah selling for just a buck more for a sixer.
Had a few bottles tonight (paid $10.99 a 4 pack). Really digging this brew. Best DIPA i've had in quite a while...better than the citra and double jack we had at a tasting a few weeks ago (and those were great)
I'm liking this better out of the bottle, a rarity for Great lakes.
This will hit Madison WI shelves tomorrow! I will be grabbing some.
