I was very surprised last year that GL made such an excellent DIPA. One of my favorites now.

    Should be around $9.99 for a 4pack.

    Mosaic hops.

Was there something wrong with the name Alchemy Hour?

C&D request from Widmer due to their Alchemy Ale, IIRC.

I miss this beer, I'll be ISO.

Great beer, wish I was passing through a state selling this. Having said I'm not really sure I had more than one beer from Great Lakes that wasn't at least a B+.

First time it'll be in Jersey, excited to try this when it hits in probably 2 months.

    First time I've heard that...

I was quite impressed with this beer last year. I recall it being a little harsh with the alcohol, but I still really liked it. GLBC makes some incredible beer.

I was actually hugely let down by Erie Monster. Want to try it again this year to see what I think. I found it ironic in a way that a beer with that name tasted so syrupy sweet...

Edit: Although a release party seems silly for a beer which will be so widely distributed anyone else think this

name change was a good thing... for the life of me I could never remember the name "Alchemy Hour"

however chillwave? time will tell if it's more memorable for me...

Either way the beer was memorable. Glad to see GL starting to step it up.

I know this is a "West Coast" DIPA, but the name's terrible. Alchemy Hour made sense. Chillwave? Might as well call it "Spicoli's Ale"

Have to say I agree. I liked Alchemy Hour. Chillwave is kind of lame. This beer should be WAY higher than it is on the top 250.

Agreed! I know people do this all the time but with this beer it made me realize I was wasting too much time and money buying Pliny the Elder this beer is insanely good.

  29. Josbor11

Had my first Pliny last night. Very good, but I agree. Pliny is high up because its rare and hard to get for 95% of the people on here. We chase after it because its a novelty. Honestly though after having tried it. I will take a four pack of Alchemy any day of the week over other DIPA's.

The new name at least now fits the label. Alchemy Hour didn't really seem to have anything to do with surfing on icy, cold Lake Erie during the windy months, which is what the label depicts.

It has nothing to do with a West Coast, "chill brah and light up this doobie" attitude that you might be referencing with that Spicoli comment.

The folks at Widmer didn't think it through. GL Alchemy Hour/Chillwave is a far superior beer. People might have bought the Widmer by accident, thinking it was the GL offering.

Disappointed that GL didn't continue their Cleveland themes for naming it.

It is a "Cleveland" theme name, just a very lame name (in my opinion).

"The name Chillwave Double IPA references the cold, often harsh conditions that Great Lakes surfers must face each time they ride waves."

I know I'm in the minority here but I found this beer to be pretty weak. Absolutely loved Rye of the Tiger though. Went through almost 3 cases. Looking forward to the release of that one.

Something something defending trademark or losing it, can't blame a business for protecting their branding, GL should have done their research first, something something.

Is this the beer formerly known as Quitness? That was an absolutely classic Cleveland name.
