Still on tap over at the tasting room?
No, it was one of the free Zwickelmania beers. It tasted delicious even from a plastic cup.
As of yesterday Cherry Adam is the current from the wood beer on draft. That also tasted real nice.
Cherry adam is the next bottle release, and its carbed.
Also rumor mill is that cans of hotd ipa coming?
Cherry adam.. carbed yes... light o the cherry. Too light imo. Seems like they are trying to cut costs a bit. I miss the heavy handed cherry from years back.
Hey, this looks familiar!
Forgot all about that (Wendy mentioned this was coming a couple months ago).
I'll be very curious to see how well these beers are received. I don't get the impression that bottles of blue dot sell all that well any more, but maybe can sales will be different.
The cans will at least hide the murkiness.
If they could properly make Blue Dot again I'd buy the cans.
April 1st? Weird timing...
So would I. In quantity!
I like green dot and polka dot so I’ll buy some from time to time.
I’ll give blue dot in a can a chance, but not holding my breath
Enjoyed this 2013 bottle last night. Damn fine. Quite a difference between this and regular ol' Fred. Appearance and everything. Still on sale there. Might have to pick a couple more up. Cheers.
they are selling 2013 FFTW bottles to go ?? how did i miss this....
I bought it about two weeks ago, but you know how their to-go selection can be. Last year on a random Wednesday they had some '16 Matt (I think it was '16?) and some '09 Cherry Adam From the Wood! When I got this Fred, they didn't even have regular Adam. Random.
yep.... went yesterday and can confirm that 2013 bottles are for sale! $18.
Actually, they had a pretty extensive to-go list.
Also, a one-off batch of Matt was on tap (not the 2013 or 2016 that were bottled). Super tasty!
Hmmmm..... you don't say. It's been some time since I've seen Matt on tap over there (and I always love me some 2013 FFTW). The tasting room is just 10 minutes from my office after all... Plus I wanted to wish Wendy and Dan Bon Voyage for their upcoming France trip. Hmmm...
Here now. As always, matt is very, very tasty.
But also undeniably a bit spendy. A full glass is $15.50 today.
My neighborhood Whole Foods has batch 99 bottles of Fred and Adam right now. Has batch 100 come out yet? Seems like something fun to pick up.
Fred 100 is out. I'm assuming Adam 100 should be any day now. And I agree, fun times. Thought they'd celebrate the occasion somehow. Hopefully will.
Out of curiosity, I grabbed a can of Polka Dot at my local grocery this past weekend. The beer was terrible, despite my already low expectations. There was minimal carb (shocking, I know), and I'd best describe it as syrupy. It's a 5.5% ABV IPA that drinks like an 11% triple IPA. Drainpoured it after 4-5 sips.
I guess they just don't care? I don't know what would possess them to sell this stuff at their taproom, let alone package it. I can't think of an IPA in recent memory that I disliked more. And this is from a well-respected Portland brewing pioneer to boot. It's shameful. But it's also not surprising.
Huh, ive had it on tap a few times and thought it was fine... Nothing spectacular but certainly not the mess you described. wonder if its much worse out of the can???
The cans are available in Seattle but I'm afraid to try them. Blue Dot has been terrible on draft and in bottle lately, so I can't imagine what an even worse version would be like.
I was wondering the same thing. Minimal carbonation and syrupy doesn't sound like the beer I tried in the tasting room, and makes wonder if there was some sort of storage problem.
IMHO, it's not a particularly outstanding ipa, but I didn't find it to be a syrupy, boozy mess either.
This is my reaction as well. The last batch I had of blue dot on draft in the tasting room was actually pretty decent, but over the past few years I've found it to be consistently mediocre. Never did care for polka dot, and found green dot pretty lack luster as well.
Can't imagine why anyone would be buying cans of this stuff.
I tried all 3... I didnt really care for them either...
Nostalgia and respect
It's hard to respect a product that the owner doesn't seem to respect himself.
Both get lost pretty quickly, though, when that first purchase in a while doesn't live up to one's memory.
Speaking of memories, I like to recall the time Alan replied to a thread suggesting I might not know how to pour (his) beer into a glass correctly. I continue to practice with other breweries' beer, but I'm not sure when I'll feel confident enough to attempt the feat with a HoTD bottle/can again.
Is this where we get to remind him that "Beer is more than glassware"?
anybody go to Fred fest?? Looks like a 2011 AFTW was tapped and that sounds a lot better now that its not 90 degrees
It's back on tap now.
2011 adam aging in a barrel for 8 years. Its amazing!
Yep. Had a small pour today. Wow! Fantastic beer.
Looks like Golden Sabbath is on tap at Apex.
Good news/bad news, eh @John_M ?
Lol! You're right if course. Pretty sure I tried this previously, and it was quite good.
That being said, I probably won't go over to try it again. Tempting, but probably won't do it. It's Ardbeg day over at highland stillhouse tomorrow, and there's the usual panoply of great beer options in town this weekend. Don't see the Apex being part of the equation.
Website's stopped listing to-go beers, anyone know what might be available this week? Coming from Mass for a min-honeymoon and can't wait to visit HOTD.
I'm not nearby, but I'd assume at the very least, Maja should be available. Probably along with a couple other ftW bottles.
It really tends to vary from week to week, so it's best to just call the tasting room. I would also add that you can still find things like Maja in various stores around town, as well as recent vintages of Cherry Adam, AFTW and Doggie Claws (for example).
Was there a new batch of Maja released? Or is this still the first batch?
First batch I'm pretty sure. I think there's only been the one version.
They just released the second batch
Yup. New batch released this year.
Also, they released Adam Batch 100. Really thought they'd have some kind of celebration for this but alas, nothing.
Also, also, Beerweek Smoked Marzen is friggin amazing!
