Fair enough. I'm a guy with a bad knee who doesn't stand for long periods of time. Unless it's for Radiohead. So I guess we'll agree to disagree.
Anyway, it wouldn't make much sense to stand at Half Acre when I could surely get a seat at Bad Apple, Fountainhead or City Provisions, while enjoying similar quality brews.
Guy at the bottle counter called it a Holiday snifter. Seems like it'll work all throughout the year, as well.
Ooohhhhh, that's purty.
Is Half Acre still open? Website says 5 but yelp says 11. Was hoping to grab a few bottles of Big Hugs.
I have been wanting to try a Big Hugs forever , if someone has an extra BM (beer mail) me - I have some Jackie O's from the latest release I would trade for one.
HA closed at 5 today. Also BA Baume in the taproom was outstanding!
I'm a fan of the regular Baume, wonder if that will still be around when I get home next week... sounds tasty.
Also they're closed tomorrow for their holiday party. So the next shot is Tuesday at noon
The tap room is still open as of 6:45. I just walked in, purchased a couple Big Hugs bombers at the bar, and walked out the door within 5 minutes.
Oh ok. I called the taproom an hour ago and no one picked up.
Should I assume there will be plenty left on Tuesday?
Got a couple bottles, gonna crack em next weekend. Def excited to try this!
After doing the line thing last year, decided to take it easy this year. Rolled in just before three, got my bottles, then enjoyed a BA Baume at the tap room. Surprised they didn't age this rye stout in a rye whiskey barrel, but used Heaven Hill bourbon barrels are probably more readily available.
Someone at the register told my buddy that they expected to sell out today.
Is this still available I was planning on going Thursday
My friends and I picked up our bombers at the very last minute, probably 4:55ish and the cooler was still full of bottles as well as some cases sittin on the floor. Shouldn't have a problem Tuesday but Thursday might be stretching it.
Either your buddy misunderstood them or the person at the register was way off cuz they def didn't come close to selling out. Good news for everyone that couldn't make it today and plan on going Tuesday or maybe Wednesday.
Perhaps they expected to sell out based on recent crazy beer hype in the city. I for one am happy to see a solid release that didn't turn so damn crazy in the city.
Big hugs is good but it definitely shouldn't get blown out of control. Especially with so many equally good beer available in Chicago.
both releases at rev were great.
I've got one of each from the last releases...next time you guys are in Athens or we are going to be at the same bottle release I'll bring them so we can drink them...I've been looking for a good excuse to get to those.
The one at the tap room was aged in bourbon barrels? They had barrel aged Baume on tap at Fountainhead on Tuesday and the description said that one was aged in Redemption rye barrels.
Now I'm very curious about what the tap room's description said exactly, dangnabbit. At some point I saw mention of Heaven Hill, and Untappd refers to it as a bourbon-barrel aged beer, but Heaven Hill does make several rye whiskeys (Pikesville and Rittenhouse -- Redemption comes from the LDI works in Indiana that also makes Templeton) as well so ???
Half Acre made two different variations of BA Baume
One in Heaven Hill Bourbon Barrels and one in Templeton Redemption Rye Barrels. Both came out well.
Yea they had plenty when we left right before close. I am sure they had more in the back also, but don't know for sure.
Anyone know if the holiday snifters are still available? Are these what went in the gift baskets if bought?
I saw a few of these in the shop yesterday, dunno if they were in the Gift Baskets or not...
I got a normal snifter for like $7 I think...
How big is that holiday snifter?
On the smaller side. Like 10oz i think. Has dope gold rim though.
If you've got a bum knee it makes sense then.
I also like how you make the exception for one of my favorite bands.
Didn't end up making it yesterday. Wish HA showed some love to the South Side.
It's 11 oz. And yeah the gold rim is a nice touch. Can't wait to break it in later
What an awesome show over the summer. M83 is my new favorite. They put on a great show too.
Yes, these are the same which were in the holiday basket.
