Ok so at my friends work they are having a Halloween Raffle that will include the following beers. I'm thinking if I win this it would be a pretty good addition to my cellar which so far only contains a single bottle of Syx. Goose Island Big John (2011) Surly Smoke (2010) Olvalde Farms The Auroch's Horn (2012) The Jolly Pumpkin Noel De Calabaza (2010) I'm curious about the Olvalde Farms as I have never had it and a BA search came up empty. Would anyone who has tried this Belgian Strong Pale Ale or any of these other beers care to comment. I had Smoke last year and wasn't blown away.
I thought this was going to be some sort of potluck function in which participants would haphazardly blend beers in a large pot.
I donated those beers, so bid high (this is actually a United Way fundraiser)! The Olvalde is the only one that is available on the shelf right now, I only added it because the others were all darker but I didn't want to include an IPA since I wasn't sure if the winner would know to drink it fresh. Also, it's pretty cool that one single person brews, bottles and distributes it. I am personally a fan. http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/25259/67769
Picked up a bottle of Aurochs on rhubarb today. This is the second batch of it, or second release anyway. First batch was knock your socks off awesome. Come to think of it, that's pretty how I would describe Ovalde. Someone needs to do a write up on them. They are kind of shrouded in mystery, and as we all know, mystery is delicious.
