Which beer for ham and sweet potatoes? I tend to like Belgian styles.
Belgian Strong or Pale Ale with a honey angle,
Darken it up to bring out brown sugar, BSDA several can do the job.

To me the ultimate beer to go with this would be Duck Rabbit's Wee Heavy without question.
