Anyone ever have a beer that seemed to kick their ass much harder than the ABV would suggest? I just had a CW Peruvian Morning and for being only 8.5%, it seemed to hit me like a truck. Any other beers that seem to hit much harder than one would anticipate?

Coffee stouts tend to have a decent amount of caffeine in them. Multiplier effect. And now that it's been mentioned, it's time to try this year's batch of KBS.

Funny you should mention that. I had a few Weyerbacher Double Simcoes on tap the other night and they totally destroyed me for some reason (and I have a well trained liver). If I'm drinking an IPA it's typically a big one, D-Simcoe is a dangerous little bugger.

I've had many beers that hover around the 10% mark, give or take a little. Honestly, and this is the truth. Bud buzzes me more than any beer ever has. No joke, no lie. I caint 'splain it.

Black Tuesday, which is not a beer but a supermassive malt event in the beer-time continuum. It's what happens when you achieve a relative density so high your batch undergoes gravitational collapse. The Bruery doesn't really blend other beer with Black Tuesday - they place beers within its event horizon let physics do the rest.

I tried to tackle a full 750ml of North Coast's Brother Thelonious recently (9.4%) and I had to drainpour a few ounces. I've easily taken down bombers and 750s of bigger beers before, but for some reason 20 ounces of this beer messed me up.

I had a Scaldis Noel a while back. It's 12%, bit it was just a nip bottle. I was really feeling it though.

Midas Touch seems like it is way higher than 9%. Maybe it's because it drinks a lot like mead, and you can sort of get the alcohol on it. As far as the one that destroyed me the most though, it's another one from DFH, Fort. One time I had a whole 750 of it, and it was probably the only single bottle of beer I've ever drank that got me drunk

Recently did some Founders Double Trouble, and had forgotten it was 9.4%. That caught up with us mighty quick.

I don't wanna crap on good stories, but alcohol affects you based on numerous factors, so if a beer seemed to hit you particularly hard, it was probably just because you weren't well rested, hadn't had much to eat or drink, etc.

All that being said, sure, I've been in situations where beers hit me harder than I expected. Recently, umm, multiple bottles of Nugget Nectar can certainly catch up with you when you aren't thinking about it. I have a tendency to finish one off in less than 10 minutes if I'm not paying attention. That's a sure-fire way to have the alcohol punch you(or at least me; I'm a lightweight).

Actually, since I just don't have a high tolerance(though I do a lot of training), it's usually the other way around for me. If I'm well rested and ate regularly during a day, beers won't hit as hard as I expect. I've sat down many times with bombers of say, Stone Self-Righteous, expecting to get hit by a truck, only to find I'm feeling one beer-ish afterwards.

I had Rochefort 10 in the middle of the day once. Even though it's ~11% abv I didn't think an 11.2 oz bottle could knock me out.

Last years 24oz super Bomber of SN Hoptimum put me on my ass. I tend to drink IPAs faster that big Stouts or BW's. That is probably what did it.
