They just tapped it today. A few months ago they asked people on Facebook to name some food products to include in an upcoming beer....here is the finished product.

A 10% Imperial Stout brewed with cacao, peanut butter, marshmallow, Pennsylvanian Maple Syrup, Vanilla Beans and One Village Coffee Espresso Beans.

I wasn't able to make it out there today but going to try it out tomorrow. Sounds......interesting? Did anyone try it tonight?

Not what you would expect. No traces of most of the ingredients like peanut butter, maple, etc. More balance than I ever thought. Chic and coffee and dark malts. Was not over the top by any means.

I had some last night. Found it quite enjoyable. They said they expect it will last a couple of days tops.

    from th website:
5 Out of 5: Imperial stout brewed with marshmallow, peanut butter, chocolate, vanilla beans, maple syrup, and coffee. Beer for people who don’t like the taste of beer. 10ish%

Thanks to good friends who bring growlers I was able to try this last night. It's on the sweet side, but not any more so than Only Void was and I think that's to be expected based on the ingredients. As was mentioned before, it's really balanced with no one thing overpowering the other and all of the flavors shine through, especially as it starts to warm down a bit. Liking this one.

I did. I go with "balanced" over "complex", there's a lot of flavors packed in there but they work together well, there's not that everchanging layers effect I'd call "complex" like you get out of something like a Jolly Pumpkin Madrugada Obscura.

TNGabe, enjoy your trip! Make sure you try their bread & pickles at the very least.

Cracked a growler of it last night, the chocolate was there almost exclusivlely and as it warmed you got just a touch of the peanut butter. Deceptive at 10%, but I would definitely get some more of this.

I haven't tried it and with what the response has been I don't know if I'll make it in time. Are you sure it uses the saison yeast, Rifugium? I read your review and that part surprised me. As far as I know (maybe an assumption), all of their stouts have been made on the "upstairs" system using American style ale yeast as opposed to the "downstairs" saison dungeon system with their magical saison yeast.

I don't know really, I don't work there. haha Someone informed me of that, and while I take it with a grain of salt, I just assumed that if it was true, it could be contributing to the "problem." I'm pretty sure when they use saison yeast on dark beers, they technically call it a "dark saison," so it probably wasn't used on this one. But once again, I'm just guessing. They're the brewers, they know what they're doing.

That wasn't really my problem with the beer. There was definitely some off-flavors though, and I wasn't the only one to think so.

When I mentioned the "saison yeast," I just meant in general, when they make a dark saison / stout-type beer, not particularly this beer. Sometimes it works, sometimes it works not as well. So I guess it was a bit ambiguous.

If it's causing that much drama, I'll just edit my review. :stuck_out_tongue:

I'm not saying you were complaining I was just curious about that comment in the review. I have to try it for myself is all! Did you try Cassie? No debating the qualities of that one!

Yeah, sorry. Again, I meant in general, I've noticed the yeast can potentially clash in a darker beer, sometimes it works, sometimes the results are more "interesting." Guess a general remark shouldn't be part of one specific review, and I apologize. I did ask the bartender if the saison yeast was used on this, and he said yes, so maybe I was just misinformed.

Cassie was a nice beer of course!

Wasn't a fan of this beer. I haven't had any stouts from TH that I've really been "wowed" by. I got tons of marshmallow initially but in the finish I got a really bitter medicinal taste...not "complex"...just sweet with a sort of bitter/hot finish. It was a bit chocolatey but it was more of a dark chocolate that was overpowered by the marshmallow/a bit of vanilla. I got no peanut butter whatsoever. IDK...with the amount of beers that are similar to this, I just felt that this one was really mediocre. Lots of better stuff on tap right now like Cassie and Perfect Hole in One. I also find that all of their stouts are really lacking in mouthfeel but this was definitely the thickest beer that I have had from them...still though, it was lacking. I'm sure it'll still sell and trade well since it looks good on paper  Didn't see anyone order a second pour of it while I was there.

It's the advantage of having such a diverse tap selection. Some people will like a beer, some people won't. But in the end, there's something for everyone, so everyone--including the brewer--wins.

I've found the higher abv beers I've had (only void, motheranimal, westy 13) to be among my least favorite offerings from TH. Anything north of 10% by these guys seems to be too sweet for me.

For those wondering, TH had both size growlers there last night when I was there. Long stem glasses and still some Only Void snifters. T-shirts available too for Only Void.
I think generally that the stout and higher ABV stuff is def not their wheel house. Who am I to say anything, but I think that need to consider some bottling of their IPA which I had been told previously that they will never bottle. I am not sure people will stay quite as interested with saisons and stouts that don't completely hit the mark according to some. I was disappointed that with the summer season that they have not kicked up a couple of Berliners. A nice Berliner with say blueberry or watermelon or something along those lines would be quite tasty.

It was pouring pretty well and lots of growlers being taken out. This will not last too long so if you want to try on draft, I would get there before the end of the weekend. It will be back in bottles though for anyone who misses it now.

Got a growler of this last night. Thought the peanut notes were quite prominent, but the growler had sat out for the better part of an hour. Agreed that Tired Hands is best at hoppy beers, but this was worth a try as a sipper.

Very sweet. All the ingredients were in there but very subtle. Not sure aging would help this one though. I agree that their higher ABV beers aren't wowing me.... with the exception of Zombie. Best black IPA ever. Westy 13 was very good too. Meh, they'll figure it out. +1 on the lack of Berliners... those have been awesome!

Had the 5 out of 5 last night.

It reminded me of Southern Tier Choklat but with more depth of flavors as opposed to being a one dimensional glass of Hershey's syrup.

This didn't do it for me *shrug* I couldn't individuate most of the ingredients that went into it. Left me a little frustrated. The body on it, however, was excellent. Cest la vie. Seems to be a polarizing beer. They're going through a ton of it in short order, but of the people that have reviewed the beer, the reception's been lukewarm.

I just drank more Vision Creep. One of my faves.

No...you basically said they can't brew big beers. lol

"I'm sorry to say, this is Tired Hands weakness (stouts, or specifically, high gravity beers)."

That's your opinion, however, and you're certainly entitled to it. Not everything's going to be for everyone. As I said, I wasn't particularly enamored by this one either. Next!

Well, yeah, just an opinion, and I don't think they can't brew big beers, it just "generally" seems to be their weakest link, if they have one, in comparison to the other stuff they put out. But the other stuff sets the bar pretty high, so it's all relative. Plus, I'm just a consumer, and one person out of a large clientele.

I'm hoping the 5oo5 is still on, because I want to try to get over there tonight and give it another chance. I'm pretty certain I got a bad pour / the tap lines weren't clean. If I (and the people with me at the exact same time) am the only one that got such intense off-flavors, there must have been some contamination in there.

I had lunch there today and got a growler of it. Didn't hear any talk of it running out soon.... Will report back once we have it tomorrow. On a side note the lower ABV beers there are freaking awesome... they do some great things flavor/ mouthfeel wise that I've only found in MUCH higher ABV beers.

I tried a 4oz pour of "5 out of 5" last night...thought it was a great digestif! A little sweet for me but I could appreciate the balance of flavors with each ingredient having a subtle role in how the beer turned out. I thought it was pretty successful as a "beer that tastes nothing like beer."
