Went crazy over this beer a few years back. Have any of you had RECENTLY? I'm hoping it didn't change, the brewer was really dialed in on this beer.

Oldest brewery in the world, I highly doubt change is anywhere in their playbook:wink:! Cheers

Good point. Wish it worked like that for premium cigars, too.

A must-grab every time I see it. A pretty beer in the glass, and delivers some very unique and pronounced yeast notes for the style.

    Probably because it's non-adjuncted, non dry-hopped, non-barrel-aged, lagered and less than 10% ABV :stuck_out_tongue:

4.20? I think there's a bias to favor: (1) Newer beers that most people have not had a chance to try; (2) Very expensive beers. I wouldn't sweat the rankings.

Yeah, Untappd can be pretty worthless for traditional beers. Because...
...if this applies to BA, I think it doubly applies there. If it's not trendy or checks one of the above boxes, Untappd thinks it's comparatively garbage.

Thanks so much. I’m excited. German imports on draft should be the base of Maslow’s hierarchy of needs.

Do not think I've had this one, and I like Doppelbocks, will look for this or Andechs next time at store. Sound like change up from porters this winter. Looks like halftime has it

I had a pint a few weeks back. Anything Weihenstephaner puts out is going to be solid ime. Age is the problem most of the time. Is a excellent beer tho, I love dopplebocks.

Unfortunately that is so true when it comes to German imports at my local beer retailers. :slight_frown:

On the bright(er) side, Doppelbocks tend to hold up better when it comes to age (relatively speaking).

    Cheers!

Yeah, agreed. There are some breweries that produce liquid art, and you have to instinctively trust their skill. Ayinger is one, Weihenstephaner is another. There's others but I am too senile to remember any others at the moment

I currently have a clone of it on tap as well as a bottle to do side by side judging.
Top notch Dopplebock for sure. If it has changed, I can't tell.
    It's definitely unique.

Tastes the same as ever. I had some recently. Even though Weihenstephaner is the "oldest brewery in the world," they aren't exactly sticks in the mud when it comes to change. They've introduced quite a few new beers over the last 15-20 years, both traditional and not. That said, I think they'd probably be very up-front with major changes to that one.
If you dig Korbinian, it's worth seeking out Ayinger Celebrator, Andechs Doppelbock Dunkel, Weltenburger Asam Bock, and (if it still gets distro'd) Kloster Scheyern Doppelbock Dunkel. Those are the heavy hitters for the style IMO.

Had it fresh (<2 months old) a couple of times over the holiday break.
A ton of dark fruit, nice spice + so easy.
I'd take it over Celebrator, which I find a bit... black; too much pumpernickel + molasses for me.
