Hey "Mid-Atlantic Folks" - heading down over Labor Day to see some family in the Allentown/Emmaus area for the first time in a long time. Two quick questions:

    - Anything good & local I can look to pick up while I'm down there?
    - As far as I know PA still has the whole distributor/bar sales set up (editorial: ridiculous), where do you go to pick up craft beer? If I go to Shangy's in Emmaus and I only going to pick up suit cases and 30's of Yuengling, Bud, Sam Adams, etc? Where do you go to pick up craft bombers, singles, etc.

    Thanks for the help!

Shangy's you need to purchase by the case, but their selection is outstanding for craft beer.

The Tavern on Liberty you'll be able to get some good draft and single craft bottles. There is also a Wegmans in Allentown that would probably be worth your time to stop in, as the prices will probably be the best in the area. You can buy singles, bombers, mixed 6-packs, 6-packs and 12-packs there.

Perhaps someone who lives in Allentown may be able to give you some more places, but those are where I have been when I head up there. Also, if you're interested Funk Brewing Co. is open in Emmaus and also HiJinx Brewing in Allentown; both new to the scene.

If you want a very large selection of singles, I would strongly suggest Abe's in Bethlehem. I live on the other side of the state and would never miss an opportunity to stop in. And if you are looking for a place to dine, The Mint is next door.

A trip to Fegley's/Allentown Brew Works is always a decent stop when in the area...

Thanks! I didnt even think of that Wegman's over by ABE. Funk Brewing looks interesting - their Citrus IPA sounds right up my alley. Will have to stop in there - just trying to figure out what their tap room hours are!

I agree that Shangy's has a great craft selection. A lot of the breweries available make mixed cases because of the law, but it's usually the basics of their lineup.

Both Funk and HiJinx are brewing, but neither has their taproom open yet. Funk is close, HiJinx looks like not until the fall.

I agree RblWthACoz on Abe's, and The Mint for food.

Ah, okay. Sorry OP - I thought they were open. I've had some of their beers on-tap around the area, some were not too shabby.

Yeah, I talked to both of them at a recent beer fest and that seemed to be the indication. Both had decent beer though.

I've been keeping an eye on their facebook pages because i want to do a little LV brewery tour When everyone's open. Heard decent things about Funk but not much about HiJinx. Good to hear the beers are decent. Maybe OP can find them on tap somewhere.

Funk's Citrus IPA was tasty. Of the beers Hijinx had, their Imperial Stout was best.

Thanks for all the reco's - will definitely have to try and make it over to Abe's. I see you guys get distro for Bell's and Deschute's too which is pretty freakin' awesome (we don't get either in Boston).

Deschuttes is distributed more down closer to Philly. Haven't seen it in Lehigh Valley.

It's definitely in the Northern suburbs. Come down the Turnpike or 309 to the Lansdale/Hatfield/North Wales area.

Deschutes website was showing it as available in Topton and Quakertown (a few other places too but those were the only ones that hit my limited geography)

Weyerbacher is in Easton, so if you're willing to drive 20 or 30 minutes, I'd suggest that.
