Heading to the Dells on Sat. from good ole Illinois. Taking my lady for a little get away for her birthday. Figured since im in the area I was hoping some of you fellow BA'ers might know of a good place or two to stop in the area for some good beer food etc. Really love to find a spot that has a great Mix 6 Section. Please don't say the Moose Jaw Brew Pub. their beer is so sub par. Foods pretty good but brews not so much.

Sprecher opened a brewpub recently, it's ok and better than Moose Jaw.

I heard that, I haven't had any of their beer yet. I've ran across it at Woodman's but their are so many other great options their that I just cant seem to bring myself to purchase the Sprecher offerings. Their Soda's are always great. Any particular beer or food you would recommend from Sprecher.

P.S. I did happen to hear that MONK's has a decent craft selection can you or anyone else verify that.

I was there last summer w/ the girlfriend's family. We ate dinner at Sprecher's one night...had a couple respectable beers, and a couple awful ones.

I can't really give you any recommendations on bottle shops.

My recommendation is to stop in Madison on your way to the Dells...

It's not offered on the menu as an option, but they will do flights at Sprecher so you can try everything and see what's good. They also have some of their "premium" 22s available for sale... if you call anything Sprecher "premium." Still ok for that neck o the woods.

Haven't made it to Monk's in awhile, I got kids now, and last time I was there it was kinda seedy lol. Sprecher and Moosejaw are quite family friendly.

Right when you get off 90 at Rt 12, the Mobile gas station right there has TONS of New Glarus and other good Wisco stuff. Good stop to make before you even get to the hotel.

Was in Madison 2 weeks ago. We love love love that area and its a total Heaven for Beer Connoisseurs. Usually will head back home and stop in New Glarus since we cant get any of there goodies here in IL.

I know Monk's used to be that way but they built a brand new joint right next to the Wilderness looked pretty impressive last time we were up that way. The little lady wanted to go to Marley's so guess who won that decision.

I'd keep driving north to Plover/Steven's Point. My wife loved it, but then she's a bigger hophead than me.

Glad my Lady isn't a hop head, she loves to drink but wont touch my craft beer :grinning:.

I really enjoy all of Steven's Point stuff ( I think I have actually had it all at one time or another.) Might have to check into O'so Brewery I've only had a couple of their offerings. Nothing I got excited about any recommendations.

Liquor Central (If you are closer to 90/94 and 12 intersection) and Zinke's (closer to downtown) for bottles.

Stop in at Zinke's, see link. I am not sure if they have mixed 6 packs for sale, but they do carry a variety. I will be stopping there next weekend as me and the family are headed to the Dells for a weekend vacation.

I stayed at Wilderness in January, and yeah I looked at the beer list at that Monk's, mostly BMC, Leinies, Sam, and run of the mill imports... Bass, Newcastle, etc.

I've only been to the Monk's at the Wilderness and their craft selection was Spotted Cow and Capital Amber.

Actually Capital Amber is probably one of the best AMBER's I've run across IMO besides Ale Asylums Ambergeddon. Stopped at the brewery last summer and talk about a old school brewery and our Guide was Plastered which made it even more fun. Dieing to try a little Nugget Nectar but haven't found any in my neck of the woods.

Today I actually took a break from the IPA's and IIPA's and had a couple ambers thought id give my palate a rest today.

Last time I was at Oso they had Belgian Red and Raspberry tart on tap... The taproom is awesome as the best tap list north of Milwaukee, IMO.

Liquor Central near where US-12 intersects I-90 is a good place to go, they have a lot of good stuff. Zinke's.. meh, nothing special there that you can't get at Liquor Central. I think both are owned by the same people but I could be wrong.

The Viking II Express in Baraboo (20 minutes from the Dells on East of 12 on Highway 33). Grocery store but has a great local and national beer selection including build your own.

Skip Moose Jaw. The beers are so-so and the food boring. That plus they got on my bad side when they ran to law enforcement and tried to get a local beer bar shut down over a homebrew competition they were holding.
