I have a trade in the works for fresh, Heady Topper, which I have, for fresh BCBS. The trader lives in Chicago. I don't want to insult him but is a cash-value for cash-value trade reasonable? Should I expect to trade a premium for BCBS?

Ok - that is fair. Obviously, I am not interested in profiting from a trade but don't want to be taken advantage of either. I will keep a "bit" of a premium in mind.

while they've been talking about production increases for awhile now, BCBS still hasn't returned to "find it on the shelf always," for anyone as far as i know (which it stopped being in around 2010).

the trade seems fine to me, but yeah if i were on the HT side i'd try to go a little above and beyond thanking the person for hooking me up. while it was probably just as easy for your partner to get BCBS as it was for you to get HT, re-upping would probably be much easier for you*.

    * unless we're right at the beginning of The New Era Of BCBS where they've sated the market again and it stays on shelves, but 1) i don't think anyone could know that before-the-fact, and 2) i personally don't think that era is coming any time soon.

$4$, toss him a nice extra, and call it a wrap.

BCBS is about 2 years away from permanent shelf status across half the country. As it was up until about 18 months ago.

Yup bottles used to get dusty.

    I hope so.

The first day i walk into my local store and BCBS is just sitting there on the shelf again. I'm gonna walk over to the glass shelf, grab a snifter, walk back to the BCBS, pop one open and sit indian style on the floor drinking one after another with a giant grin on my face until the police finally come to the store to make me leave.

I will be the minority on this one ... or at least the minority out of the responses so far but I don't see the need for a premium ... I love BCBS as much as the next guy BUT HT is release in one general area of one state whereas BCBS is released to over half the country. If it were me, I'd offer 2-4 packs HT for a 4 of BCBS ...

Just curious, and it would make sense that I know this before the trade, but how much is a 4-pack of BCBS? $22ish?

Ok, so two 4-packs of HT at $26 for a 4-pack of BCBS at $22ish (knowing my shipping will be slightly more) seems reasonable.

I think $4$ is extremely appropriate. I'd actually prefer to have Heady any day.

I made one offer on acquiring 2 BCBS and 2 KBS. The guy wanted 4 Pliny and 2 Blind Pigs in return which was my whole RR stash at the time. I countered with 2 Pliny 2 Blind Pigs and a 4 pk of HT. Never heard from him again. BCBS may be easily available in the mid west, but it's a tough trade without going 2-3X $4$ I suppose.

Ouch - I don't need BCBS that bad. If that ends up being the price, I will just drink Ten Fiddy with HT chasers.

That's Fidy, not Fiddy. My bad.

As usual, Scott is spot on. As a person from Chicago and someone who has BCBS I think a 4-pack BCBS for 8 HT is appropriate and fair trade (I'd probably trade for that). It's close to $4$ and I think both beers are similar excellent caliber and relatively hard to come by. Because BCBS is a single release per year it does push it over the top over Heady, so I would expect the HT person to go a bit above $4$, which if 2 4-packs of HT set you back $26 then you're probably good. But for good measures if you throw in a solid extra or two then I say fair deal.

Sounds like a good trade, but is a four pack of HT really $13, or are you adding tax and whatnot? I just ask because the $22ish is a low estimate and doesn't include tax.

Would absolutely love it if this were true... but I'm not going to hold my breath.
