I live on Long Island. Was in my local shop the other guy, Heady Topper came up, and the guy there mentioned that a limited supply is being sent to bars and that he drank "every one they had" (half kidding). Anyone else hear about this or know anything?

Could be buying it at the brewery and illegally selling it.

I guess that's possible, but he made it seem legit.

This also wasn't NYC, it was Nassau County, Long Island (wish I could remember which bar.).

Nothing has been sent down there recently. They can't even keep up with demand in VT.

"Union Beer has solidified its position as the only source for the best selection of beers in the fourteen counties of southeastern New York."

Also, IIRC retailers can buy from any NY licensed wholesaler regardless of territory if the beer is not available through their local distributors.

A few months ago I had a Heady Topper at Black Sheep in Mineola but I think it was a one deal for them to have it.

As a fellow Long Islander, I'd be down for some HT in our area! I doubt it's going to happen with any regularity unfortunately... at least for the time being.

"Conflicting opinions"? So, that official Alchemist blog entry where they say they were sending HT to Union Beer, a licensed NY distributor which covers Long Island, is just "opinion"?

Beyond that, no one can really confirm if the beer some unknown person says they drank in some unknown bar on LI was Heady Topper or was legally purchased by said mystery bar.

My guess would be that there's some hoarding going on, and whomever you talked to is sitting on the last remaining 4-pack of 3mo-old Heady he got in May.

Tap and Barrel in Smithtown had some a few weeks ago. $9 a can. But don't think they have any atm. I am told they make the trip up every so often and bring back 5 or 6 cases.

As far as I know the one and only time Heady made it to NY was back in May (see the sites/blog posts that Jesskidden quoted earlier in the thread). A few stores around the boroughs got some and several bars in LI got a case each. I grabbed a couple at The Good Life in Massapequa Pk when it hit. Maybe the guy you were speaking to was referring to the May shipment?

DeCicco's in Brewster has some, or did as of a few days ago. $8 a can.

Yup...had one on Saturday. I'll assume that it was from the initial May shipment. Regardless, it was delicious as ever.

I think they're out since they only had a few 4 packs left as of 8/3.
