The guy at the beer store told my buddy - who traveled there from like 600 miles away - that heady topper has to stay refrigerated. So, rather than get me a case at $84, he only risked $14 on a four pack. Is this BS? How many beers really need to stay refrigerated!? That second question does not need to be answered.

I kept my last cans in the garage and had actually forgotten one (i know shame...) but after 2 months it was still great and never refrigerated I drank as is..

I say get the case! :grinning:

The drop off from a small span of time not refrigerated would be minimal, if noticeable at all. I'm suspicious of your friend actually.

It needs to be refrigerated in the same respect that any hoppy beer needs refrigerated.

You tell that "friend" of yours to turn around and drive back!

But seriously, I kept a 4 pack out of the fridge for about 4 days and am currently drinking one of those...tastes just as good as the ones that went right into the fridge...

It's a load. They say that so their beer is (hopefully) at its best consumed. Big difference between sitting in the trunk for 8 hours versus 45 days at Bevmo.

Agree with everyone else. It's total BS. Keeping it refrigerated can only help, but it's not going to get ruined by sitting out of a fridge for a little while. Wouldn't recommend letting it sit in the sun on a hot day, but that is rough that you didn't get the case.

As if Heady Topper would sit anywhere for 45 days

I'm sorry, but I think that the cost of buying a cooler and keeping it fresh with ice during that drive would have been totally worth the cost if it meant the difference between bring home $14 and $84 worth of Heady Topper.

thanks guys. I can't believe a respected beer store would say that, despite that myth about refrigeration being debunked. My "friend" is a vendor rep, nice enough to stop there, but not a beer guy. He seemed too worried to disobey the orders despite my prodding. He is up there every 2 months, so it won't be long to wait for the rest of the case.

Yeah no one has ever complained to me, and I've shipped to all corners of the country. Sometimes a can of mine misses the fridge, and you'll never know. The only people who will insist that it needs to be refrigerated are the ones who will decree that Pliny is no good after 36 hours.

It's not a "myth" per se, it's just extreme overkill, and it's hard to say if something was misinterpreted. Refrigeration absolutely does help keep it fresh, but it's not going to fall off so hard from a few days at room temp that it's going to make that much of a difference.

I'm a 6 hour round trip to the Cannery and I can't wait to at some point make the drive up to Waterbury this summer. Gotta save up for 2 cases or so to make it last.

After a 600 mile drive I would have taken the chances on a case of HT.

And I doubt an unrefridgerated road trip would have had much effect. It's not like all distributors trucks are temp controlled.

2 cases won't last nearly as long as you think!

And for the record Heady Topped turns into a world class barleywine if not refrigerated!
