I have a problem. Any one else? It's not only a cellar problem, I guess it's also a BA problem, a beerkarma problem, if you will.

I started my cellar in 2009, not long ago by any means. Right? I decided to just buy and trade for more beer than I and my one other, at that time, fine beer lover friend could drink. This worked well and in no time I had a cellar over 150 bottles and many fine ones among them.

Along the way I have converted some friends and joined a large group of friends as dedicated to fine beer as am I. We started sharing a lot of beer. I traded more and the cellar grew.

Now I have curtailed my trading, and the wife complains the beer part of our cellar is too big. I decided some months ago to reduce it, and have pulled bottle after bottle for tastings and birthdays and homebrew club events. I pulled 16 bottles just for the last barley wine tasting.

What is up with this.? There are more bottles than ever down there. They actually have moved onto shelf space they never used before, due to lack of room in their "area" next to the wine. Where are they all coming from? It seems the more I move out the more there are.

Am I the only one notices this? The more you share the more you have? Help, how do I clear out the cellar if this is what happens when I try?

Be cool buddy, I'll help you. Just send half your cellar my way now, I'll take this toll just to help you. When it's full again repeat the process. No need to thank me.

Sounds like they are reproducing down there. Maybe cover all of the bottles in condoms and see if that helps.

Several months ago, I decided I had way too much beer and found that I was growing more and more fond of drinking growlers available locally as well as a lot of the seasnals that come around so I went on a mission to "drink it down" and knocked it from 500 plus bottles to a little less than 400. When thing s were really cooking and I was pushing 375 (or so I thought) I took a check and saw I was back up to north of 425. It seemed that BcBs hitting town made my numbers jump as well as a few releases where friends sent me one of each plus extras. I have also found that I have been slowly slipping back into trading here and there.

I find that the real trick is to unplug from the trade and release forums. When I don't really know what is coming out or buzzed, I don't know what I am missing. Also taking the mindset of getting a single bottle of something locally helps. With tasting groups and all, I find that I get to try everything that comes around a few times anyway.

Alternatively, you can just hit the trading forums with a few go big trades and try to trade 12 bottles for one long time want and the like. That will help reduce the inventory, but won't help the shipping budget.

I agree with the unplug perspective. I went mostly dark on the forum for the past month or two since A) I was moving and had no cellar space in my new place and B) had to get a job that paid less and shouldn't begetting more beer anyway. With a great deal of willpower I managed to simply live off the cellar for beer, and now only have about 12 bottles that I have no intention of touching for a couple years.

I just give ~24 bottles of beer to a friend that likes craft beer every month or so that I know I will never drink because I have better/more appealing beer to me. Most of it is shit I bought a six pack of and didn't care for after 1 or 2 or is extras I received in trades. He likes good beer but doesn't do the whole BA or trading thing. He does like FREE beer. Either way, I tend to drink my best beers first and work my way downward. Cheers!

It took me about a year to get mine down to only things that actually should/can be aged and that I know I'll drink. I've gained some weight due to this, but I'm down to the point where my wife complains about excess packing materials and not bottles. I wish you luck, as it can actually become an inconvenience.

I'm in the same boat. I had too many and drank it down from 150 to about 90, but now I'm back up to like 125. I moved to a new area so some beers that are new to me were too good to pass up plus I grabbed two 4 packs of Backwoods and BCBS. I had planned to do that though since I love those so much. I'm pretty much done buying 22oz bombers unless it's a BCBS variant or hoppy (and thus forces me to drink it ASAP). I've got plenty of big beers to sip on this winter. I just find that I don't drink many bombers of 10% beer because I don't want all of that by myself and worry I won't want the same thing two days in a row.

You could just try some quantity for quality trades, condense down a good portion of your bottles. Or hold a "Come drink my beer" tasting. But the only real way to stop it is to stop buying beers you plan on putting in the cellar instead of drinking them.

SNPA, Celebration & Torpedo for $12.99/12 is what makes my cellar grow.

Not because I age those beers, but because I'm not drinking my stuff from the cellar when I have a ton of those beers on hand.

This hit the nail on the head. Most recent is Tumbler which was irresistible at 20.00 a case closeout.

I also think someone is sneaking beers into the cellar. I would put a video camera with a motion detector but I am afraid it might reveal who is doing it.

I might do this, but the way things are going after it's over I might find the cellar is full of even more beer and I can't even walk anywhere without stepping on it.
