I would love to know how DFH hit the mark 100% with 90 Minute and completely blew it with 120? I would almost take a 90 Minute right next to an Artic Panzer Wolf or Heady Topper! But that 120? My god.... I am sure there are folks out there that like it, but I guarantee that if you they bet with their mouths, they would not drink a second!

I am with you on 90 - one of my favorite DIPAs! DFH is usually love/hate for me.

I love 90, Burton Baton, Indian Brown, My Antonia, Palo Santo, Hellhound

Not so much love for 120, WWS, Midas Touch, Bitches Brew, Black & Red, Punkin...

I try to be philosophical. Sometimes they hit the mark dead on, so why sweat when they miss big. I just don't get the love for some of their misses.

Sculpin IPA. Just did a blind taste video review. 3.75/5 I was very suprised when it was uncovered.

Two highly acclaimed beers I wasn't all that impressed with at Brewvival were Cigar City's Cognac Sweet Stout, and Funky Buddha's Maple Bacon Porter. I liked most of the other things these two breweries brought (especially the Berliners and also FB's Sweet Potato Casserole and Peanut Butter Chocolate), but these two did not do it for me.

Foothills Sexual Chocolate is another one. It's a pretty good imperial stout but there's so much shelf stuff (Expedition, Ten Fidy, Brooklyn Black Chocolate, etc.) that I would drink over it. I can't imagine going through the effort to acquire this beer.

I've had a couple like this, where my feelings on the beer were significantly less ebullient than the commonly agreed upon perception. Predominantly Abbey Des Rocs tasted almost exactly like a homebrew that I had seriously screwed up, and was just kind of a mess. I had high hopes for Sculpin only to have them dashed on the rocks (though there may have been something wrong with that particular bottle: it didn't taste ANYTHING like I had been lead to believe)

EDIT: reading back over some of the other responses, it seems as though Sculpin seems to be a common target for the ignominy of this list, so maybe it wasn't just my bottle after all...

Oh, the other two I was thinking of: Endeavour from St. Arnold. Picked it up when I lived in Austin and was super excited, but felt that it was, beyond not being as great as it's sold to be, below average.
And to balance out with something from my current home back up in the Pacific Northwest I was suuuuuper underwhelmed by Maiden the Shade. Another one I was excited to try and just didn't move the needle in the slightest (at least not in the right direction)

Lagunitas Sucks! I opened the beer fridge yesterday and Palate Wrecker and Hopslam were tag teaming Sucks. No lube.

    Stone IPA. (BA rating 95)

Went on an IPA kick about a month ago. This beer put an end to that immediately. I'm no stranger to bitter hoppy beers, but I think a good IPA needs to have balance. Stone IPA came off purposefully unbalanced, just for the sake of being as bitter as it could possibly be. I was incredibly disappointed; it's not often I find a beer I don't like.

Moe's Bender is legendary, but I respect someone who has the balls to speak up about not enjoying some of the best beers in the country.

Came to post this. While Pliny was tasty, I don't see where the hype came from.

Arrogant Bastard for me. Just underwhelming as a strong ale. Love just about everything else from stone though.

I've had Racer 5 fresh on tap and it was incredible. I find that it doesn't hold up long in the bottle. Most times I've bought a six pack it was very underwhelming.

Drie Fonteinen Oude Geuze. It didn't taste bad; it just tasted "less good" than I expected it to. :astonished:

    Hopslam.

I find it's so sweet and malty that it takes away from the hops. There are cheaper beers here locally that are tastier IMO.
