I remember a thread on here (well on the old forum) about how this brewery had this awesome link on their "No I am not 21" button on the age verification page just before accessing their site. Anyone know which brewery's website that is?

There are a ton of breweries that have pretty funny links.

LOL, if I was underage and clicked on those, I would be pissed. That's very insulting to kids over the age of that teenybopper crap.

This is awesome. I would have never thought to click the "I'm not 21" button. My day is now filled with trying to find more!

Jackie O's and Alpine both redirect to Disney. Terrapin links to an awesomely appropriate youtube video. I think Sun King is the winner.

It's not like underagers don't know how to or will not will lie and enter. It's not exactly algebra to enter the minimum legal birth date when or if required.

Sometimes I think this site needs to forward a few to the Midol URL.

Which is why those so-called "age verification" check points of a good majority of alcohol sites, including a number of craft beer sites, are futile, pointless and only end up annoying legit users. IOW, unintended consequences killing whatever good intentions there were.

That is actually quite hilarious. If I was underage though I never would click on the "I am not 21"
    bar anyway.

I think these are all funny but I don't understand why brewery's have to do this in the first place. Porn sites don't ask how old you are. I mean what 16 year old is interested in reading about beer from Stone or Three Floyd's etc anyway? It's not like the visiting the site comes with a free sample.

With the possibility of a law suit putting any of these breweries out of business, why not take the 30 sec to add this feature. I am sure it is something suggested by the lawyers of the breweries. The rational does not need to make since, but the $$$ does.

I don't think it's lawyers as much as the companies and web designers repeating what the "other guys" have done. I'm not a lawyer (more of a web designer but not exactly that either), but I think the threat of a lawsuit could be alleviated by their website terms of use w/o having to use one of these "splash age-check" pages - they are horrible for the usability, search engine ranking, etc. of the site. It's not like you can buy beer on the vast majority of these sites so I'm not sure what they're afraid of; if it was illegal for the underage to see and read about beer I imagine the supermarket would need to restrict the beer aisle to adults only. As for keeping "kids" out, these are the equivalent of a master lock made out of play dough.

The Brewers Association's Marketing and Advertising Code recommends it:

    2. A Brewers’ advertising should focus solely on communicating to adult consumers of legal drinking age.

    • Brewers should require disclosure of a viewer’s date of birth at the entry to their websites indicating that a brewers’ products are intended only for those of legal drinking age.

Yes. This is correct and should also be obvious in today's litigious society. Anyone who has owned a business will understand the logic behind the CYA mentality.
