I went to the afternoon session of the Summerfest yesterday. I got there about 2 pm and was surprised that Hill Farmstead was completely out of beer less than a third of the way though the session. It didn't dampen my enjoyment of the festival particularly since I wasn't there just to sample their stuff, but I had been looking forward to it.

For those that went, I assume this happened at every session? And there was a mad rush on them at the beginning of every session? They clearly knew they were going to come up short and the sessions wren't even sold out. I'm interested in how others feel about breweries not planning to last the whole session. For my part, I understand if a special beer runs out at some point, but if you're going to go through everything so quickly, I'd rather you not participate.

I was at the Friday night session and they ran out in about a hour, I was able to try a couple of their beers. I think they were trying to save most of their beer for their bottle release which was yesterday, plus they're still a very small brewery but one of the most popular among craft drinkers. I was just happy they made an appearance at the Fest!

As you may have noticed, nobody from Hill Farmstead was actually at Summerfest. The organizers asked if we could send a keg or two for their event. We did. It is not the brewery's fault that there wasn't enough beer. Nor that it ran out early.

Would've been nice to see reactions to the fest overall instead of your first world problems.

I'm extremely glad you guys even made the effort to send anything. I think there was plenty of beer there for everyone who showed up when the Fest started, I was surprised it even lasted a full hour. I hope you guys come to the fest next year and other festivals, even if it's only a keg or two.

Even if you didn't get a chance to try any HF, there were still some great beers there and you definitely would have gotten your money's worth. Some of the Cambridge Brewing Company stuff there was phenomenal and not even on their list of expected beers(Rose de Cambridge, Nom de Plum, etc.). I thought it was an awesome festival and I'm definitely looking forward to it next year! We're definitely very lucky to have so many great breweries in the New England area!

Summerfest was pretty good. I thought all the breweries represented well, and the crowd was respectful and everyone seemed to be in good spirits.

Some highlights: HF of course, Night Shift, Mystic, CBC, John Harvards, but everyone was great.

I was pleasantly surprised at how good Alchemist's Celia was. It balanced with the sorghum very well!

Yeah for a small fest, I actually discovered a lot of great stuff. I didn't expect to like Celia as much as I did. Enlightenment's hoppy Saison, CBC Brett grisette, Idle Hand's d'aison, and Night Shift's rose au poivre were all just some of the highlights for me. Oh, and as silly as it seems, Peak's summer session ale surprised me. I've never purchased it before because I honestly wouldnt think it would be anything great... But it suprised me. Its nose was somewhat reminiscent of HFS What Is Enlightenment...which was also mind blowingly good there, but I'd had that before so no surprise there.

Overall, I thought the festival was very well run. I appreciated getting a chance to talk to some of the brewers of new breweries - Idle Hands, Jacks Abbey, Enlightenment, and Nightshift in particular. Beer highlights were Jack's Abbey Biere de Garde (both versions), most of the CBC stuff, especially Nom de Plum and Rose de Cambridge, and the Backlash beers. HF was such a contrast to the other booths which is why it stuck out for me, but I guess something is better than nothing. Cheers.

Is this the first fest-type event put on by the organizers? I know that site has been around a few years, unaware they were doing festivals till this one. Hope it went off well (didn't go), I like that location.

If their beer wasn't so freaking good - we wouldn't have this problem.
