We planted the three rhizomes I ordered today. This being texas, I am uncertain how well they will grow, so I didn't go overboard, but it's worth a shot. It dumped rain just after we planted them, so watering is taken care of for today! They are planted in the ground and we will train them with twine as needed. They're sort of planted in a valley where they can grow up the size of a "cliff," all visible and supervised from our elevated mancave/brewhaus. (my bro's back yard is quite an interesting place, lol).

We planted willamette, cascade, and nugget. And hey, if they don't grow, or don't grow real well, I won't be too upset by it.

Here it is, my little hop yard. I was late on getting the barrels so they are stressing a little bit.

...and if they grow out of control on the other hand?

I look forward to some pictures ACJ! Hope they come out great...

I started gardening last year and found it to be an EXTREMELY gratifying and fun hobby, so I am sure I will eventually get into growing hops.

Seriously, there is something awesome about grabbing some fresh veggies you grew yourself and making your summer dinner out of it. Kind of like brewing your own beer!

There portable, it contains the rhizomes from taking over, and everything just looks cooler growing out of a barrel.

If they grow out of control, nobody will care, because it's in the middle of the woods and there's nothing else for the hops to crowd out or upset. So far I'm not optimistic... but they have gotten multiple rains and some extra watering, so they may still wind up growing. How long does it take for rhizomes to pop out of the ground in fair, but not spectacular conditions?

Mine took about 1 week for a 'zome from Midwest Supplies and about 3 weeks from my LHBS. However, there was a huge difference in the # of shoots from both 'zomes... There were way more from MWS. Not just the # of shoots, but they were aleady sprouting from within the packaging from MWS. When I got them from my LHBS, it just looked like a stick :stuck_out_tongue:
